New 135i Owner from Atlanta

Hey all

I wasn't sure where to put this thread. But I just want to introduce myself. My name is Cory, and I just purchased a 2012 135i alpine white w/ coral interior with DCT a week and a half ago. I am coming from a wrx, and while the explosiveness of boost isn't there on the bmw like on my wrx, the car is still fast and fun to drive. I still have to get used to the rear wheel drive.

I had tons done to my wrx, but don't plan on doing (too) much to the bimmer. I'm already thinking about sways, since this car doesn't have nearly the gokart feel the wrx had. That and a jb4. Are those jb4 tunes difficult to install?

I look forward to becoming a part of this community

Welcome! There is an infinite amount of info on these cars. When it comes to a tune it depends on what you want. Some of us prefer to stay stock/BMW parts as much as possible. Others go full after market products. Some look to stay low budget, others full bore mods all in.

You'll want to do bushings, dampers, and camber plates, in that order, before touching the sways. Spherical bearing rear toe links are nice too, but don't have the bang for the buck of the other mods.

You'll definitely want a bigger intercooler / meth to accompany your JB4. The stock intercooler has its hands full with stock power.

Welcome Twin.

I did my JB4 as my first mod. Worth it.

I'm sure you will enjoy the car! Don't forget to join ATLbimmer on facebook for any local help and social events as well

Thanks again all for the warm welcome.

After a few weeks with the car now, I have a few questions I hope you all can help me out with.

Where in the rev range is the bulk of power/tq? I have been having a hard time finding it when down shifting because it seems the car accelerates the same throughout the entire rev range. It just doesn't feel like a turbocharged motor.

The car has 33k miles on it. I already have oil and filter waiting in the garge. What other maintenance items should I be looking at? Can anyone point me to a maintenance schedule?

Since the car doesn't have a water temp gauge, at what point can I start to flog it when looking at the oil temp gugae? Should I wait until the oil is fully warmed up, or am I ok at least when the oil is starting to warm?

And lastly, I'm assuming the recommended first mod is a jb4. Is that what most people do first?

Thanks guys

There's a forum section for maintenance/diy in this forum. The miles are still low, so I don't think there's not much you need to worry about. As you rack on miles, gaskets tend to wear out, water pump is infamous for failing (mainly n54), I've heard some issues on the dct (idk too much, i have a 6mt). Mods, I recommend the JB4 first as well! You can get them for reasonable prices, and your car will evolve! Welcome!
