My lease on the E92 is up in May and I've been set on ordering a 2011 135i. If they give the US the DCT I will be the happiest person on earth
Now if they could just change the headlights a little and get rid of the amber turn signals for the US

Since the current 1er hatchback has been in Europe for so long, I didn't think the 1er coupe would see an LCI. The hatches received LCI treatment at the release of the coupe, correct me if I'm wrong... I realize the car is still new in the US, but I bet other markets are ready for a completely new model. /OT I'll drive one of these DCT cars sooner or later, but its going to have to be SOOO good to convince me to give up that far left pedal...

It's that good, and I'm sure you'll love it.
After spending time in the newest Z4 with said tranny, it is SOOO nice, and I was so impacting that I will have to have this gearbox soon enough. |

Well that's great news for those looking for a bimmer without three pedals. The DCT is amazing, but I'll be sticking with a good ol' fashion manual.

This is great news, but I really hope they have ///M style paddle shifters. I think its rather annoying to have up and down shifting on both paddles. If this is the case, Ill be sticking with a 6mt

I'll trade the DCT crap for an LSD and lightweight CF roof.

Dct will probably be $3000 option. Also remember the warranties and extended warranties don't cover dct, as it's considered normal wear and tear. Save another $3000 down the road for dct fix.. also, many on m3 boards posted that dct is searching for gear too often.
It's an interesting option to consider for those who likes automatic, but give me a manual please. |

.. i am also looking forward to test-drive the 135i + DCT but i´ll also stick with my 6 MT. Its worth to have the clutch + 6 MT on board sometimes..

Gosh, another slushbox change? Hopefully they've worked out the kinks from the M3.
"The only significant complaints involved the dual-clutch transmission. In automatic mode, it works remarkably well, and it was hard not to be awed by the speed of the shifts and its smoothness of operation. Indeed, technical director Dave VanderWerp observed that it “upshifts so smoothly under part throttle that it’s easier to detect a shift from the change of the exhaust note than it is to feel it. Too bad,” he went on, “that the lazy throttle tip-in from standstill is so off-putting.” And near the end, the dual-clutch transmission was making clunks and groans. Assistant tech editor K.C. Colwell was adamant that the transmission had loosened up considerably. Twice while the M3 was parked facing downhill, the transmission slipped markedly when the driver was trying to back up. If the clutches need to be replaced, our local dealer quoted us $3296 for the job! So far, none of the M3 forums has reported any issues with M DCT, save for the service bulletin already mentioned. Indeed, most owners seem besotted with the dual-clutch gearbox. Most of the sentimental drivers on staff would have preferred a manual transmission in the M3, although the automatic function of the M DCT is good for mindless commuting." http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/...term_road_test |

So, is the future performance variant of the 1er going to be a 135 with the DCT and tuned N54 like the new Z4 sDrive35iS has? If that's the case, those of us who want a 6MT (me included) would really only need to install the new BMW Performance package to bring our cars to a similar level. Of course, other tunes may be a better option.
There have been so many rumors that the performance 1er would have different suspension tuning and possibly a turbo 4 cylinder. I'm definitely excited to see what we'll get, and I'm also happy to hear that the Z2 is still in the works.

Problem with the manual tranny loyalists is they talk a big game but don't show up when BMW listens to them, thus ruining the chances for manuals to stick around in all models. Example, when the V10 M5 came in only SMGIII there was a lot of complaining that no manual was available. When BMW responded with a manual, sales were far below expectations, essentially wasting their time in offering this 6MT in the states.
A couple more situations like that and the MT will be in even less offerings. |
