My non-runflats handyman kit!

Well I just got some goodies from tirerack today left on my front porch. Since I just ditched my runflats I figured I would give these items a shot

Hope I never need em

Brian

Where are you putting the CC Kit? I put mine vertical next the battery. Not a great fit though, but good enough.

Good Question. I just threw the box in my trunk for now so I have it on me. I havent looked under the cover yet to see where I can put it.

I may just put in behind my drivers seat..the rear seat never gets used anyways

You ought to get some use out of the tire gauge, at least. I use the same model. I do not recognize the item with "Dill" on the top. Is that plugs?

Looks like it might be a digital tread depth gauge?

You are right

Not familiar with the Conti kit; what does it do?

I was thinking a can of fix-a-flat and the cigarette lighter-powered compressor from my old 911...

The Continental kit has a compressor and a container of latex based fix-a-flat. The compressor is used to move the latex into the tire and air it up. It should work better than pulling the valve stem, squeezing the bottle onto the valve stem to get the gunk into the tire, and then airing it up. The compressor doesn't look like much, however. It is probably quite noisy and slow (but not nearly as slow as walking). The latex solution is supposed to be something that can be cleaned out of the tire so it can be plugged.

What can and can't be plugged, however, is up to the person doing the plugging. I wouldn't be surprised to find a person unwilling to clean the gunk out, even if it is latex based.

Thanks for the info Jim; as you say, it's better than walking. I'll probabaly stick with my previous solution then. Need to check that the hose is long enough to reach the wheel though...

I got the Viair Compressor from amazon
http://www.amazon.com/Viair-00073-He...sr=8-1-catcorr
, and a Snap-On Tire Plugging Kit. Not gonna mess around with Latex crud all over my TPMS.

I hear ya man, but with the conticomfort kit I have the option of not using the slime but just the compressor. I will also pick up a tire plugging kit so I have two ways to get fixed up

If need be of course.

Good thinkin Brian,
I was just too cheap to spring for the conti kit.
Little advice on the plug kit,...
Get a good quality one with a metal handle if possible.
My stepfather is a mechanic, and has seen the plastic handled ones fail,..thereby pushing the metal spike thing up into your hand.

I've packed DynaPlug kits in both car & motorcycle for about 5 years. It looks to be very sturdy, has gotten great reviews and best of all - I haven't gotten any flats while carrying it!

Why wait until you replace the RFTs? The compressor & Dynaplug are cheap enough that I carry them even with the run-flats - principle being that in case of a puncture, I can repair (or at least re-inflate) the offending tire enough to prevent tire damage.

With all of the (non RFT) flats I've had over the past ten years, the tire never completely deflated (no blowouts, luckily), and I've been able to make it to a gas station with an air pump facility - now I don't worry about even that.

Great info in this thread. I was lucky enough to find a Die Hard kit at my local Sears a few months back (looked to be left over from xmas). Sticker was $129, I got it for $30 and change on clearance. Came with compressor, tools, jumper cables / the whole gambit. Just need to add in a quality tire plug option (Dynaplug looks great) and I should be good to go!
