Windshield Washer Pump Priming?

My windshield washer reservoir emptied the other day, so I filled it up and tried the washer but nothing came out. I could hear the pump running, but no water on the windshield. Do these pumps require priming when the reservoir runs dry? Looked in the manual, but there was no info beyond how to operate the washer. Anyone else run into this problem and what was the solution? Thanks.

These little pumps aren't great. If they get air in them, they will need primed.

They dont need to prime thats for sure...
Inspect your hoses maybe some of them poped of. If they will be fine can be your pump bad sometimes it breakes inside - motor runing but the plastic thing which should pump fluid can be broken.

Solution replace the pump

Check the pump pickup for a little filter screen. These can get clogged and you hear the pump run but no fluid comes out.

Good suggestions. Plan on doing some maintenance this weekend so I will explore a little deeper. Now I have some specific things to look for. Thanks.

I have same problem. before bodyshop they work fine but after bodyshop front bumper removal washers hasen't work, headlight washers works. Only little ammount fluid comes out, whashers fluid container is full.

Do anybody has "explode" picture of the fluid container, realoem don't have.

I think I would check the hose for kinks or cuts. The pump should be self priming. Also there should be a check valve somewhere to keep fluid in the lines. Looks to me like those elbow connection pieces are the check valves. Not sure.

I can't even hear pump sound. Fuses are ok but sidekirts has been away from the car when car was at bodyshop so it might be loose connection. I have to tear down passenger side inner fender.

Man! Just replaced the pump cleaned the filter screen flushed the tank (some kid of goo at the bottom), but still no water to the washers! The only thing I can think of is to blow out the washers and the lines (disconnected from the pump) with compressed air. I'll try that tomorrow. I'm drowning my sorrows with football and beer.
