when you guys speak of "fender roll" does it mean widen/stretch or pull the fender out, or is it actually curling the metal?

Im asking, because on older japanese cars, (which I've owned quite a few several years back) "rolling" the fenders simply meant bending "the lip" of the fender that curls into the wheel well. (see picture)

however taken a quick look at the e82 fender, and it doesn't seem as easily "bendable"...

i128, rolling is what you are showing above. You are correct, there is very little to roll on our front fenders. Then in the rear that inner lips is much stiffer than in typical cars, especially as you get around to both sides. After you get it rolled, the area that will still usually rub is in the rear of the fender where the bumper connects. You can't roll that area.

So what many go further and do is they "pull" their fenders which is bending the fenders further out. When you do this much in the front you'll tend to get a slight fitment issue between the fender and the bumper.

Another option is "trimming" the inner fender. That's where you cut out the inner fender lip. This will gain the most space. I probably should have went with trimming since I still rub but I was scared to try it.

Btw, with minor rubbing, it's usually just that inner liner that's rubbing, most cut it out. I cut mine out on the fender side up close to the top of the arch and the left over liner still sits in there nicely.

Thanks for the tips!
I will try and see if with some driving they"ll "settle-in"

If not i"ll have to try option 3, trimming the liner.... it seems like the less invasive surgery...lol, plus probably will cost the least if I mess it up...

35s are too much. You need 30s.

I didn't know that. I'm running PSSs with 265/30/19s in the rear.

On a somewhat related note, I swapped out my Toyo Proxie T1R in the rear to the PSS. Both 255/30/19.

I'm encountering quite a bit of rub (much more than the Toyo's) with the new tires. I'm dropped pretty aggressively and rolled/pulled, so the rub isn't uncommon, but it's pretty bad with these new tires.

I'm hoping they even out (or wear down?) over the next couple of hundred miles like other people in this thread have observed with the 18's.

On a different note, these tires, even with the gel coat still on them, are much more grippy than the Toyos, and I consider the T1R to be a pretty good tire. So far, very happy with them.

Cheshire, that's the same switch that I made. I like the T1R's. Mine lasted 30k+ miles. They rubbed way less than the 245/35/19s that I originally had on. I had so much room that I was gonna to a wider size if I went back with the same size. I doubt that a 265/30/19 T1R would rub as much as these 255/30/19 PSS's.

I don't see how putting some miles on the tires will make them rub less unless rubbing and wearing off the area that rubs or bending the fender out where it rubs. I added a degree of camber to get my rubbing drivable and now I need to pull my fenders out more. I'll probably have to raise my rear coilovers eventually.

That's the only thing I can think of that would cut down on the rubbing. Suffice to say, at this rate, I wouldn't be surprised to see that rubber worn down pretty quickly. It definitely sounds like it's not just a couple of millimeters, though. It's a pretty strong scrape. It clears under normal conditions, but with any moderate compression of the suspension, it gets loud fast.

update- after about 1k miles, the tires still rub. They improved a little after about 100 miles, but it's still very bad compared to my old Toyo T1R's. The tire profile is different- it kinda flares outward 10mm or so from the tire before diving back in.

I have to raise the ride height to fix this.

On a different note, the performance of this tire is incredible, both in the dry and in the wet. Night and day difference. Even though I'm going to have to alter the suspension for them, IMO it's worth it.

Cheshire, you can also add camber to help rear rubbing. I add max camber added so my car is very driveable, now i'm working on a combo of pulling the fenders and raising the suspension and then i'm gonna back of the camber a little.

Yea- possibly, but I'm running a pretty aggressive fitment. I've already rolled and did a light pull, but I may try to add a couple tenths to see if I can get it under control.

So the only way to really roll the fenders you have to alter the lining? I've had mine rolled twice and it still rubs and I'm at -2.0 camber in the rear. It's super frustrating I'm assuming the fender lining will wear down after a while of consistent rubbing. But it is annoying getting to that point. Does anyone have pictures of a trimmed fender lining?

Yea- these rear fenders don't "roll" flat like other car models (such as Nissan). They pull more than anything, it seems.

I just got these tires and am having the same issue it seems that it's only the passenger rear tire from time to time going over bumps or dips even more so if I have passengers in the car! It's very annoying! 265-35-18 here..

Old post but incorrect. With MPSS tires it will rub slightly with only a 5mm spacer.
