Running too rich!?
My 135i is still producing a lot of white smoke while i am driving, especially when i am idling at lights. I believe it is running rich, anything i can do? or do i just need to take it in?

Odds are you have a bad head gasket. White smoke is the result of anti-freeze getting through the combustion cycle. Get it looked at.

Oil will be blue. Sometimes oil can be white/blue mix. The difference will be smell in that case. Oil will have a distinct order compared to coolant.

it had been doing it for about week and a half since i got my mods put on (AA downpipes, Berk full race exahust), it previously had a JB4 and a dual cone intake, no smoke during that time. anyhow i took all the mods off and now it is at the dealer, i figured since i am still under warranty they should look at it. Ive had quite a lot of problems with the car, 2 high pressure fuel pumps (im on my 3rd), and ive had to add oil too it 3 time between services...the car only has 33K miles on it, and sure i may speed, but im not taking it to the track, or hitting WOT at every light. I believe its an oil problem, and the smoke was pretty blue. I hope its not the turbos.
thanks for all the input guys, il post on here as soon as i get a call from the dealer, its been 5 days, in case anyone else is having the same issue. Cheers |

so the dealer couldnt find anything wrong with the car, i put all my stock stuff back on it and took it in to get looked at. naturally with all the stock parts, the smoke vanished. I now have my JB4, DCI, and a full berk SPORT exhaust on the car, and no smoke whatsoever...the car does not lose power. I am now just waiting for the add oil light to come on to see if im consuming oil at a much faster rate than i should be. Honestly i still have no idea what the cause of it was. I may put the downpipes back on the car, that way it is 100% back to the way it was when the smoke was being produced, however now that i have a muffler on my exhaust im not sure if i will be able to see smoke.

Both of you need to check the coolant and oil levels on your car every morning before starting your car. If there is significant changes, that may tell you where or what is being consumed.

^^^ i agree with that.\\
i think the most important way to tell what your prob. is is gonna be the smell. what does it smell like? fuel? oil? coolant? coolant will smell sweet. sometimes grey smoke can be fuel. evos dump black unburnt fuel. if your getting oil at wot that could be the rings. i highly doubt it but it could. if you have smoke at idle that could either be valves or turbos. good luck and make the dealer look more closer at the car. most of the time they will barely look at it and just tell you nothing is wrong. if your oil is getting low after 2.000 miles something is wrong. |
