BMW Performance Parts?
Hey everyone,
I've been looking at the 2009 135i for a while, and I had a few questions..so hopefully you guys can answer them. First, I read that BMW is coming out with a performance kit later on? I know they have performance parts out now, but to my knowledge this is something different that will add around 20hp. Anyone know when this is coming out and the price? Second, does the Riss Racing downpipes and exhaust void the BMW warranty? What do you guys think of the BMW performance exhaust. $1,500 sounds a little hefty for 5hp increase, but I guess it does sound better. Is the BMW performance exhaust something you'd regret? Finally, whats up with everyone getting Alpine White? I'm thinking Le Mans Metallic Blue Thanks everyone, Dave |

BMW is coming out with a "performance kit" but, it is a mere 20hp increase.
The Riss Racing Downpipes will definitely add more than 5hp plus they sound amazing. BMW cannot void your warranty for an exhaust. I suggest using the search button to look up more information. Good luck on your purchase! |

Haha thanks for your info. Yeah I figured so with the exhaust and downpipes, but I figured I'd ask here.. can't be too safe when possibly f**king your warranty
Here's what I'm thinking: 2009 BMW 135i Coupe M Sport package Le Mans Blue Black Rims Up to the legal tint BMW Short Shift Kit Ipod Adapters Riss Racing Exhaust and Downpipes Beltronics STI Radar/Laser Detector Blinder Laser Jammer 2x250W rms 10" subwoofers enclosed (from my current car) and replacing the stock speakers Heated seats.. Any other upgrades anyone would suggest? Also.. I might end up leasing instead of buying, in which case it wouldn't make much sense to get the Riss Racing parts as it would lower the value of my car. Thoughts on the BMW Performance Exhaust vs. Riss Racing Exhaust (obviously the Riss Racing is much better)? A different hood would be nice, but thats for the future |

Your going to definitely want a JB3. (JuiceBox 3 look in commercial section)
I wouldn't be spending that much money on a car and then to get a cut rate radar detector. Go for a Valentine 1 or a Escort 9500. |

I have the RR DPs and will have the RR exhaust on my 135 this week so I will report back how I like it. They will not void your warranty outright, BMW has to prove that a modification is causing a problem with your car before refusing to do warranty service. For instance, they cannot refuse to fix engine issues just because you have a DP and Exhaust installed without proving that the modification caused that issue.

JB3 won't cause me any trouble with lease or warranty I'm guessing?
P.S. After some more looking, I've decided to go with the Escort 9500ix. Hopefully you can download speed traps into it from speedtrap.org |

As for "Alpine White", the color white is becoming the new "hot sports car" color. I am seeing white colored cars pop up everywhere. It also is the temperature-coolest, which helps down here in SoFl. I wasn't looking at AW, but when I saw my AW vert with the terracotta seats, that was it. 5 seconds later, they were rolling it out of the showroom.
As for the warranty bit, if you have seen any of my other posts, I am a warranty freak. I am sick and freaking BEYOND tired of haggling with mechanics. Can I do it successfully? Yes. Does that mean that I should continue to do it, NO!! I don't know how your BMW dealership is, but we have one down here, BMW of Ft Lauderdale, and they will stop at literally nothing to try to screw with you. Give them an inch, they will take 100,000 miles with it. They totalled my mother's 5 Series in a hurricane, IN A HURRICANE, left it not only outside but in a NON-hurricane shed, and when it completely totalled the car (all panels, all glass, flood), they not only refused to claim it a loss, they decided that it only needed $20,000 to fix. The insurance company got a laugh at that. Do yourself a favor. The 135 does 4.8 0-60. If you need more than that, then you are racing all the time. Go get a cheapy car like a Civic, and mod that out and take that to the track. 4.8 seconds on the street is plenty. If you need a bump, the BMW performance exhaust and then the impending performance kit will probably knock that down to 4.5 (total guess there, but doesn't sound far off). Is it worth the hassle, the arguments, the battles, all to get better than that on the street? Make life easy on yourself.

If you are leasing and worried about the warranty I would get the JB+ this way you never have to go into the ECU and mess with your warranty. Dynos were posted today and they were very impressive.

Let me just say something before this goes into a huge debate about warranty. BMW can void the warranty of the parts and labor on anything aftermarket IF (and only IF) the part is the cause of the OEM part failure. Riss Racing (which is a company I support) and tunes can void your warranty, but it's based on a case by case situation. Just remember, anything aftermarket can change your factory warranty.
As far as BMW Performance and the "power kit," it will be available with 20HP and more information to come on that soon. When I'm allowed to release the information, you guys will know!

You guys should read the Magnusson-Moss act, which echos what was said above: a manufacturer can deny a warranty claim only if he can prove the aftermarket part caused the failure to a warrantied part. Now, easier said then done. When my cats on the M5 failed, BMW initially tried to deny coverage on the grounds of me having a Supersprint cat-back. Keep in mind the stock M5 cats are about $2500, and I need two! Of course all the wsas bogus as exhaust gases travel one-way, and no way can an exhaust (by definition 'cat-back') damage the cats. A call from my lawyer (or at least they thought so LOL) quoting the M-M act changed their mind very very quickly.
How, had I had aftermarket headers (which I do now after the stock cat replacement), I would have lost out because a claim can be made that the increased flow from the Supersprint headers caused the stock cats to fail (likely not, but since it is debatable and plausible, dealer has the uppper hand). So lesson learned: if dealer can screw you, he most likely will try to. Be careful in your mods keeping this in mind. This is one of the top reasons people like Dinan get away with charging double for their products (some great, but some very much subpar) as they have an agreement with BMW and warranty is fully preserved.

Not sure if this emoticon denotes that you begrudgingly accept AW as a color, Warranty to be kept, or that you hate Microsoft Word..
Screw lawyers, screw the MM. Too much effort, and life is too short. 4.8 0-60, heck, that even keeps my lead foot pretty darn happy. Let alone drop the top and cruise down Fort Lauderdale beach. Ahhhh......bliss!
