N52 Cam in to N55
Interesting result here. Picked up 11whp with zero tuning, then 60whp with tuning (100whp at 5500rpm). Anyone heard of this or actually done this?

This is interesting. I wonder why BMW decided to go with a cam tuned more towards 5000 rpm instead of 5500 rpm in the N55 and less aggressive. Would this be for better fuel economy maybe? 60 hp gain off of one part is amazing news.
Also, what is the cost for something like this and is it difficult as a DIY? |

This was discussed pretty heavily on another BMW forum (sp00lstreet). Consensus was that the gains are questionable and it was not an apples to apples comparison.
Edit: had to spoof the name due to senseless censorship. This hampers information sharing and is totally counterproductive.

But 11whp for the cost of a cam off a junked motor is pretty good, especially if the car pulls harder higher in the rev band. Something that needs more research at the least. I can't believe there still aren't any real upgraded cams for these cars. That's what allowed the old 2jz's to make nasty power.

I could show gains for just about anything if I cherry picked my sheets. A few vendors have lost serious credibility on various platforms I've been on over the years for doing just that.

Id want to approach it in a stepwise manner with PS2 turbo and meth first though. I'm inclined to believe you'll hit the target without having to crack the head.

There is discussion on that as well on Sp00lStreet. The conversation got extremely technical towards the middle of the thread with all types of info I don't really understand. Basically turned into a couple of people who sound like they have mechanical engineering degrees arguing over tiny minutia.
