Not sure where you got that from.

There are two part numbers listed for rear brakes on an 08 135.

34216778649- classified as 'not suitable for performance parts'

34216795754- classified as 'alternative part BMW accessory'.

I'm guessing there was a BMW Performance brake package offered on them. Sorry those are the rotors.

Pads are as you detailed 34216784808 and 34216791421 is the update.

I'd run aftermarket with better fluid if you are replacing the stock pads though and do any track work etc.

You are probably right. I think the problem was I didn't drive the Audi hard enough often enough, not having that problem with this car

34216784808 has been superseded by BMW to 34216791421. Below is a photo of what you'd get if you ordered 34216791421.

They're ok for street use so going to use them as is for now with oem pads...

will look into a caliper upgrade before the next track day.

i assume you mean with new pads

lucky that the rotor is ok I guess, i'd have thought with the drive home you might have rooted the rotor as well.

yeh the rotor is pretty rooted, this is just a temporary street solution for a week or two till I get some Hawk pads in for myself to use with the ECS 2 Piece rotors... would be good for track, except I still need to address the cracked piston issue.

I'm wondering if the ECS 2 piece rotors will help reduce the brake temps. Any ideas?

Probably yes (I have some ECS 2 Piece rotors to go on)

But then you'd need to upgrade the pads to a harder compound...

and then there are still plenty of people reporting cracked pistons/piston seals with firmer pads.

Be interested to see how the ECS rotors go. They certainly look good
I'm ordering some Ferodos and Castrol SRF.
Hopefully that makes a big difference because I'm not that impressed with the 135i brakes.

The lower the brake temps, the lower the chance of cracked pistons, melted pads etc. Another idea might be custom brake cooling ducts for track use. I'm just thinking out loud here.

I've had a few guys making custom backing plates for the pads to help protect the pistons. Just another idea to ponder over.

Yeah, I'm using HardBrakes Titanium backing plates.

Be careful.
While the Ti backing plate may be beneficial for the pistons issue, it may go in the opposite direction for the pads - which can run hotter since less heat is flowing to the caliper.

The problem is somewhere else: the OEM pads are street pads. Period.
Their optimal temperature cannot met the range given by a serious track use; otherwise they would not provide optimal brake coefficient when cold-braking (that is, normal road use).
Switch to real track stuff is mandatory for all uses other than road/light/fun.

Cheers

Bedankt. I'm changing fluid tomorrow and better pads are on the list!

I posted my cracked pistons/piston seals with pictures back in 2008. Can't believe BMW has not done anything to fix this issue! My car had only done 2000km or so at that stage with a few track days. I changed to massive AP Racing brakes and it was the best think for my car. Until today, I still have those 135i brakes with the cracked pistons. Question is, are the pistons ans seals replaceable?
