These parts are almost always provided by a third party supplier (I. e. Bosch, Continental , etc).

Other examples are injectors, coil packs, spark plugs, transmissions.

I've never seen a non-American car maker give fewer f*cks about reliability than BMW.

Basically BMW did their math on this part and knew that the cheaper part will fail in xx years and know that by then only xx vehicles will still be on the road and took a chance that money can be saved on the original part. this is why these recalls come only after a lot of these vehicles may be on the third owner that may not be traceable anymore or in the scrap yard.

Where is the "chargepipe can explode, leaving you stranded in a -30 degree winter storm" recall?

I have had my beater 5 for upwards of 6 yrs now. I have had the Vanos issue recall (when they opened up the engine there were 2 screws loose in the engine!). I also have had the gasket issue (which cost me my alternator as oil trickled into it and damaged it beyond repair after my warranty expired that is!). I also was told my fuel pump was throwing codes when I got my car into service and although the dealer said it was functioning fine I told them to replace it (warranty had expired). Now there's a recall on the fuel pump?? This is rediculous!!

It's right in between the "n54 ps pulley can hit the subframe resulting in the belt being ingested into the engine making it explode" and the "n55 front seal failure", which is adjacent to the "8 new versions of fuel injectors in 5 years" recall.

ROFL !
Jesus I can't stop laughing. I agree they aren't horrendous but they also aren't too far from that description. "Fabulously" engineered they are not, compared to pretty much every Toyota/Lexus and Honda/Acura I have ever owned (which is a lot). God, I'm still laughing.

I wonder if there are only U.S. spec cars having this issue. Last time there was a huge recall action due to Vanos bolts for all N55 engined cars, but again at first in the North America. The European service didn't know anything about it. A few weeks later during the standard oil service they told me that my car needs to stay one day longer because it has to get new Vanos bolts.

I expect the same situation this time too. I am visiting my BMW Service next month and will ask about the fuel pump issue.

Btw. are they any differences in fuel pumps for N55 between US and European versions of 335i E9X?

i truly believe BMWs are engineered to fall apart to maintain constant post warranty service . having said that I love these cars and always get extended warranty if I plan on keeping beyond warranty

It's called the ultimate driving machine, not the ultimate reliability machine. That title goes to Toyota. My mom's 91 Camry is still going strong after 300000 miles but it's no where near as fun as as driving a Bimmer.

Wow the complaints in this thread. Pretty clear nobody here understands the situation. It's a faulty contact on the fuel pump connector.

Connector melts and causes a fuel tank leak.

Parts are designed by 3rd party and the contract goes to the lowest bidder that will warranty the part. This recall is paid for by the parts supplier.

Lol at the guy saying BMW head gaskets go bad, no clue.

Look at the bright side. If you live in California you can lemon the car and get all your money back or a new one. Rinse, repeat.

Exactly. The article doesn't say which fuel pump was recalled.

Someone can fix the grammar in the title?

154k BMWs not 154k BMW.

Almost reads like ONEBMW with $154k got recalled.
