DCT sport mode and sport button?

I've read the manual and still don't understand what shifting the DCT into "S" and/or pressing the sport button do Are you suppose to do both? Do each of them do something different?

S mode changes shift point (upshift at higher RPM, more aggressive downshift) while sport mode changes shifting characteristics (better throttle response, shifts faster, and so on.

You can use both S and Sport mode button at the same time for maximum performance.
Personally, I never use S mode. I only use manual mode + sport button for maximum fun

In S mode the transmission is going to hold gears longer while accelerating and downshift earlier when breaking. It attempts to maximize performance at the expense of fuel economy.

Sport mode doesn't change the shift points. Instead it changes how quickly and aggressively the transmission shifts and how aggressively the throttle responds.

Personally, I much prefer the throttle response with sport mode, so I almost always turn it on. On the other hand, I don't really get the point of S mode for street driving, and prefer to use M and shift my self. I'd say that 99% of the time I'm in M mode with the sport button pressed.

It never did in my auto. But it may be different for DCT

I push the sport button in manual mode when I want to have a spirited drive, but coming home in rush hour I leave it off because there is no need for the fast shifting. Plus, it is smoother in non sport mode and I think maybe better gas mileage - but probably because I drive less aggressively.

In my 2012 I notice that pushing the Sport button reduces the turbo lag significantly.
I think Sport changes primarily the throttle response, while S Mode changes the transmission response.

Im usually in M mode with the sport pressed.... I cant stand it sometimes how it holds for shifts in S and when nothing is pressed its a little more laggy then ive gotten used to.

N then sometimes I hold down the traction control button for the real fun lol

Go for a drive and feel it out.

I generally drive in just s or manual mode but every couple months i rediscover the sport button and add that on but then i use it less and less and eventually I rediscover it.

I do use the D mode quite a bit, as I different traffic/road conditions suit certain modes, so I make use of all variations of tranny modes on an equal basis.
