NY Moving Violation Tix Question.

Ok, just wondering what you guys think I should do with this. I got pulled over, long story short, tagged with a 50 in a 30 zone. I'm 19, clean record, didn't expect the cop to even think to pull me over but he must've been waiting for someone with the laser pointed down the road, as I passed him going about 35. None of that matters now, its over with. Do I go to court alone, try and talk to the ADA and just get it dropped down ? Or put the extra money up and hire an attorney ? I need opinions as I do not want to deal with points, or an insurance increase. Input is important and appreciated. Thanks.

An attorney, in this case, probably won't help you. The best thing you can do is show up, plead it down to a parking ticket and pay the $4-500 fine they're gonna hit you with, and end up with no points. At 19, the insurance hit will kill you for many many years and end up costing you in the long run much more than the high fine that they're gonna hit you with if they agree to plead it down for you. Just out of curiosity, what type of police officer pulled you over?

I would hire an attorney and let him figure it out. They know the ALJ (Administrative Law Judge) in court. it is an all boys club. Trust me. Spend the bucks and let the pro plead it down. I guarantee if you go to court yourself. They will suspend your license. ... well, I think.... cause it has happened to me when I was your age.

Just a regular street cop (Patchogue Village) . My insurance is under my parents, and with my car, it is actually really low, and I do not want to affect their costs. Honestly I make ALOT of money for a kid my age, but you really think it would be that high of a cost ? I thought a parking ticket would be more around the 200 range, with a 90 surcharge. Doesn't matter to me, I basically worked that day to pay it off in that case.

Yeah man, it's gonna be expensive. If it was Suffolk PD, they are gonna slaughter you when you get to court because they know they have you by the balls. I hate to say it, but it's a money-grab on the part of the county. I can give you an anecdotal example; a coworker (who also happens to be an NSLIJ Paramedic in uniform at the time) just received a speeding ticket in Melville (55 in a 35) and went to court to plead it down. They reduced it to a parking ticket, but hit her with a $745 fine. This was about 2 months ago. She went to court in Hauppague.

They're not going to suspend your license for a speeding ticket.

They aren't going to plead 20 over down to a parking ticket. Get a lawyer.
