Hey there

Some new pix from monday's trackday, it was not a Tourist Session, that means that video recording is ok (done) and Döttinger straight is open, WHAT A BLAST !! Reached 270km/h on the speed-o, wich is +-255 real imo, very near to the electronic limit....
11 laps done (31 overall), and a BTG time set at 8'53 for now.

Awesome stuff, remembered seeing the car in the paddock area. Nice to see one with the chromeline exterior for a change.

Was great with the track being open, Döttinger straight was indeed great fun.

LuuZ, curious about that top speed at Döttinger straight. I remember from the comparison of stats of the 1M and M135i, both from their respective Sport Auto supertests, that 1M did a top speed of only 243 km/h on the straight in his "official" Sport Auto 8.14.9 Nurburgring run. On the other hand, the only section that M135i was faster was the straight and it did manage a 249 km/h.

And you saw a 270 km/h on the speedo, which is probably closer to 258-260 km/ in real speed. That is a very big gap. So, my question is, did you add power upgrades which would effect this difference? Your lap is certainly no where near to 8.15 full lap of von Saurma, how then during a relatively "slow" lap you did so much faster on the big straight?

Thx Man !!
No I'm not, but the Guy who does my detail is passionate about his job. He is great.

@Oz : my friend can testify that we ALMOST reached 270, I was watching straight ahead and not the speed-o, I don't Know what difference there is between real speed and reading speed....
Anyway a friend of mine, also 1M owner told me that électronic speed limit was at 275 speed-o. Don't Know where's the truth but I can tell you that we were pretty fast and had FUN !!!
My car is stock, only N55mid.

I got 175mph out of mine on the straight, about 280kph...and that was in 5th gear. My friend who was with me said that all car's mainly hit their max speed in 5th however. I was surprised as I thought the car was limited from factory but guess not!

Tiergarten at 170mph is somewhat fun

I am sure that you are telling the truth LuuZ so since your car has almost no power upgrade...is it like Sport Auto super test was done with a slowing down (or not pushing the car) at the final section?

Could it be because of this the 1M couldn't repeat, let alone better the 8.12 that BMW test drivers reportedly clocked during testing?

Final section is the only section where 1M was slower than the M135i and considerably slower than a M3, at the straight it reached a mere 243 km/h as von Saurma being the pilot...which I always found bizarre...more so now.

Having driven the Renault Megane RS 265 Cup myself a few months ago, a car who has a better Ring time than the 1M, there is no way that I will take this Sport Auto time as a reference for what 1M was/is capable of, it is way off. It is a so-so time coming from one of the most experienced Ring drivers on a traffic free lap, I am too old to believe in coincidences with a blind eye.

243 kmh @ Döttinger Höhe isn't very fast, but Von Saurma also said he and the car felt nervous/itchytwitchy blabla, but maybe he didn't push it because of not getting in the way of BMW //M/ and M3 V8 owners...who knows.

Advevo/Andre told me once with a stock 1M < 8:05 is possible. Who am I to disagree.

In bold: The Megane RS did 8:29 in the hands of Von Saurma...

But the Megane RS also did a 8:08(?) with a Renault pro testdriver.

Talking about one driver/one carmag, I 'd say:
Apples to apples

Furthermore the new Sportauto testdriver Christian Gebhard is a fresh capable and imo faster successor to the still-ok-but-getting-older Horst von Saurma.

Cheers
Robin

Great pics and looks like a track day at the ring is well worth the cost.

Yes, it's worth the cost, no bikes or busses, straight open, some (official) racing cars, it was great !
As you know TF is 26€/lap, this trackday was announced 13PM-17PM, they had to close earlier (16:30) because a Sub crashed hardly at Wipperman and they wanted to repair the crashed security rails for the TF safety.
It closed +-30' when the Sub crash and I did 11 laps overall, so without the crash, I guess we could do some 15-16 laps easy, I will be there next year for sure

Easy to taste the green grass on the Nürb if you're a bit too optimistic.....
