N55 tuning options

So realistically, how much longer before ESS, Cobb, Giac, etc, release something for us n55 owners. Am I the only one pulling my hair out?

Not interested in Procede or JB tuning.

I would really love to hear the answer to this as well.

You think the tuners would love to keep us updated on the forums. From what I have seen I actually like the concept of the Cobb the best. If they gave us updates on how close they are to a release I would probably wait for them...

I will say though if I have no updates from these companies in the next couple weeks I am going to be past the 1200 mile break in period and just go with procede.

Well, this is not the first post with this question. There is just few options for us N55-ers. Here in Europe is same situation. We must wait for better days.

I believe ESS is working on a direct port as well for the N55 and said they were getting pretty close.

Didn't we already talk about this via PM?

Eurocharged has an N55 tune available (which I am running) and you can buy a mygenius handheld from them as well.

My understanding is that Cobb support for the N55 is about 6 months away.

In December of 2010 ESS told me they expected the N55 flash to be available end of January or Early February. March 1st they told me the N55 tune was still in testing and that they would let me know as soon as it was ready. They declined to give me any more detail saying only that "More info will be available soon" Troubling to me is that the there is no mention of the N55 tune on their website including nothing mentioned in their section of things they are working on. Seemingly the N55 is proving to be a tougher nut to crack than was originally thought.

I like the idea of a flash, but am starting to lean to the proceed as I don't want to wait much longer and the updated V5 just came out for the N55 with the new connector to address some fuel issues.

We did,

ESS is the ideal company I would like to go with. I don't really know anything about Eurocharged and from what ESS has produced over all BMW models, I think they would be the best bet.

So do some research then.

They aren't some mom and pop tuning place dude, these guys do a bunch of N54's/N55's as well as M3's/M5's/M6's, tons of high end cars like porsche and ferrari... oh yeah and underground racing lambos. Basically if it has an OBDII port they can flash it and they have just about as an outstanding reputation as you can have in the Benz world when it comes to this stuff. They really need to push their BMW stuff but its hard on sites like this where a certain lunch time beverage is basically spoon fed to the members as being the best thing since sliced bread and then that "truth" perpetuated by the members with no real technical knowledge of WHY.

LET is the same company, they changed their name to Eurocharged in like June or July of 2009.

this is from E90post in the UK section with some of that info on the hand held.

Well you will now have the capabilities of flashing and reflashing your car in the convenience of your own home, and you keep the flasher for future use!

The unit is able to hold up to 3 tunes, which mean you can have your Stock tune for those pesky trips to the dealer, a stage 1 tune and a stage 2 tune as well or one of Eurocharged Custom tuned programs specific for your vehicle.

You will be able to switch between tunes with out having to go to a shop to get it flashed back and forth.

This handheld flasher works for all BMW's, MINI's, and Porsche

An older N54 dyno done by HP Autowerks

The car: A 2008 E92 coupe with manual transmission
Modification: None

Results...

Stock:

228.7 hp
271.6 tq

LET Stage 1:

268.6 hp
298.8 tq

The LET Flash Stage 1 made 40 more hp and 27 more ft/lb of torque at peak than stock.

In the curve, it made 44 more hp! and 37 more ft/lb! of torque, great numbers for a flash running 11.7 psi of boost.

During some back to back dyno runs we saw significant drop in both hp and tq, heat soak of the stock intercooler was the cause here. We lost 18 hp and 12 ft/lb of torque at peak. In the curve, we lost 24 hp and 22 ft/lb or torque. By adding a nice intercooler, such as the Code3 Spearco unit will solve this heat soaking issue.

Retail price on the LET Motorsport Flash is $699.
Notice they are only running 11.6lbs of boost too. They only go up to 15lbs of boost when you hit stage III with FMIC, intake and exhaust including catless DP's.

They are good and more importantly SAFE, its not like this shit is gonna blow up your engine or cause massive code throwing.

These guys know their stuff... I challenge anyone looking for a tune to give them a try. I'm super happy with my car, the thing pulls like an OX and just this afternoon I looked down at my speedo and noticed I was doing 120 on the expressway without much effort at all.

I also would like a flash tune option, however I am way to impatient to wait 6 months to a year. I went with the JB3, mainly because of price and customer service and support reasons. You can't beat Terry's customer service.

Once flash tunes start to come out I will consider a switch if the power gains are worth it.

no I did one for the 328 i used to have but as far as this one I'm still modding my car so once I go Stage II+ or even Stage III then I'll dyno and post some hard numbers. I've been running their tune since January and just did an update about a month ago, made some better gains. Then about 3 weeks ago I had DP's installed so I will need another flash to go with that to make the best power I can. I can feel the car has room to run (its still fast as hell) but the tune isn't geared for it.

This is why I love flashes (and guys who know what they are doing with them). It's not just hey run this map and you'll get xxx amount of power. Eurocharged is building me maps to best utilize the mods I currently have to their fullest potential but also not expose my car to areas it lacks. If you know anything about the N54 DCI, you'd know you experience a drop in some low end power when they get installed - just the nature of the best. A generic tune might not account for that if you have them installed. Or on the flipside, it might assume you have one and compromise another area to make up for that power loss even though you don't need it to so it's taking away from another area when you don't need it to.

You get a custom tune geared towards what fits your car the best. And they are also able to update your maps for you VERY easily if you have the my genius, you just download it from their site and then upload into the DME.

Not to start anything but after reading this thread and seeing that there IS a flash out there, readily available and hand held compatible why does your post imply that you'd still need to wait 6 months to a year for one?

did you not read it all (not that I'm flaming you for it, hell I do it quite often) or is there something else coming into play here?

So UdubBadger, u paid for a custom tune.
Do they have a general tune for the N55 or will they use ur map.
So it looks like there is a stage 1 flash
and now with ur DP - do u have FMIC? - this next custom flash
will be like a stage 2.

-how much did this all cost you. roughly.
and does ur handheld flash u back to stock.
or does EUROCHARGE hold onto ur stock file?

it would be nice if u created a separate thread
for this flash.

They have a map off of which they start from and then can tweak to fit needs to your mods, these guys don't just write code, they know how to bend and manipulate the ecu coding to help areas benefit in more power.

I am stage 1+ right now. DP's I have, FMIC I do not have yet. They will Stage II flash me next and eventually Stage III after i get all the supporting mods.

FYI their shop 135i N54 was pushing 400whp on stage III when they still had it (sold it).

Again, I do not have the hand held personally because I am local to Jake (one of the owners still in Chicago - rest moved the shop to Houston) and my SA doesn't care that I am tuned (the flash will not show up on the BMW computer anyway). EC has the BMW stock files for going back to normal.

I'm still trying to convince them to be vendors on here to really get their name out to BMW's but they are hesitant because of all the biased opinions on here about the lunch beverage.

yeah I know there SHOULD be a thread but again, no dyno yet so I just see a bunch of questions with only hearsay answers on gains and whatnot. IF/when they become a vendor they will have an N55 dyno chart I'm sure but you could easily expect a 30-40whp/30-40tq gain running a safe PSI (11-12psi i think... don't quote me) from just the stage 1 flash from what they told me.
