Extended Warranty - worth it?
Hi,
The factory warranty on my car is soon coming to an end and BMW has offered me the opportunity to purchase extended warranty. 12 months 3.2k and up to 3 years for just over 4k. That would buy a lot of repairs me thinks - but wanted to get opinions on any big repairs you guys have had - small stuff doesn't worry me stuff so much but big stuff does....like I heard of an X5 with a blown transfer case that cost 18k to repair as an example. My car has only travelled 15k and had an inspection which came up " as new" Views? |

you should be able to get it cheaper then that, unless things have changed. I got 2 years extended warranty for a bit over 2 grand i think. it also has been worth it with a fuel pump and turbo being replaced so far in the last year.

I chose not to go with it. Went out of warranty in June/July. I think I was getting quoted like 5-6k for the 3 year warranty...
So far it seems to be going ok, except for dying pixels on the radio screen which I noticed last week.

Definitely worth it with my car.
$2500 for a water pump recently covered by extended warranty. Hpfp was done aswell under extended warranty. And just piece of mind, knowing I'm covered if anything else goes wrong. Also depends on if you plan in keeping it for the term of the warranty aswell... I think re-sale with the warranty is also a bonus, in my opinion. |

From experience it pays to shop around, call some regional BMW dealers as they seem to offer much more competitive pricing.
Whether it's worth it, everyone's view is different. It definitely gives you piece of mind and will help with resale value/ease if you plan to sell it within the extension period as it's transferable to the new owner. |

I would rather go straight into the dealer with the problem, knowing its going to get fixed regardless. Saves me the stuffing around finding the problem with the car, sourcing a part, waiting for the part to arrive as its most likelt going to come from the USA, then finally getting a mechanic to do the job. Sure some people DIY, (i am one of them), but for most cases id rather know i can take it straight back, and get the problem fixed properly and promptly. |

definitely a consideration if you can't be without your car for a period (no other arrangements) for sure |
