Noise from right rear after shut down.

A couple of times I've heard a whirring noise from the right rear fender well area after shutting down the car. It sounds like a small electric motor.

Anyone know what this could be?

I don't think it's the water pump as it's in the right rear.

It goes on for about 30 seconds. This doesn't mean it isn't the fuel pump, but, I can hear the pump start/prime when the ignition is switched on before starting and it sounds different.

30 seconds? Hmm. Well, I haven't driven it in months, but I remember than when I unlock, there's some noise similar to a printer, lol.

You sure you don't have any dead hookers in the trunk?

It does sound a little like a printer.

And I got rid of the dead hookers in there some time ago.

Of course you did...

I'd say fuel pump, the one on my car (and apparently most everyone else's) is especially noise and sounds like the aforementioned printer above. I've seen some hella beat-up Corollas without rear bumpers, and they have this vent at the rear of the car, which I think is the cabin air exhaust. That may be your noise (if our cars have such a thing), it opening and closing.

I agree that it's likely the fuel pump. Like I mentioned, I can hear the pump starting to run when the ignition is switched. From the driver's seat it sounds like a higher pitched whine than the mystery noise.

Next time I hear it and I'm someplace like in my garage, I'll pull the back seat out to try to pinpoint the noise. I assume the seat just lifts out.

Yeah, the lower cushion just lifts out with some springy clips holding it in. It’s very easy. A weight savings of about 28 pounds (if I remember correctly).

Fuel pump? Or fuel tank depressurizing?

I thought about depressurizing, but, the pump with the pressure regulator is on the left - if I'm looking at the parts diagram correctly.
