All that looks like is a stock sized oil cooler that CSF sells as a retrofit for a dedicated DCT cooler (to be mounted on the driver side). I don't see how this would provide any upgrade at all over a stock oil cooler if that's how you are using it...

Yup I was skeptical as well before purchasing. It's billed as a high performance drop in replacement oil cooler (i.e. passenger side). FWIW CSF claims it's an upgrade.

Does anyone make anything for the driver's side? I was thinking about getting a PPK radiator and associated plastic bits and fabing up a second oil cooler on that side. Not sure if I'd want to run them in parallel or series though. I know there are larger aftermarket coolers out there, but I'd like it to look as stock as possible.

Thanks for the information. I see you reach 300ºf in the track and even more.
At what point do i need to get worried about my oil temperature in the track? When i reach 280ºf i panic and start making the coolant lap. I also have a n55 dct |

Here is the table in the DME that goes into a torque limit protection scheme if the water or oil temps get too hot: Essentially what BMW says here is "under 117*C (242.6*F) water temps and under 145*C (293*F) oil temps there is no temp protection active" Honestly that seems pretty hot for both values. I also tend to back off a bit once I get noticeably over 280. I once tried to run past it to see what happens and the car started to slowly pull it back and at one point I actually felt what I thought was a harder cut in the middle of accelerating... I actually caught it on video. |

Good thread. I've been wondering what provides a good solution. More oil better for sure.

Resurrection...
I wanted to see if anyone has installed the CSF 8042 oil cooler. I read the review that berns left when he had it installed on his 335i. I emailed CSF asking about the fitment for 135i's and was told there is a slight difference and it would not install. Curious if anyone with a 135i has installed it and if so how were the results and what they had to modify to make it install. I figure this combined with my CSF radiator should for for my needs. |

I did it on my 335i with N54. There are better options out there.https://www.e90post.com/forums/showt...&highlight=csf

Thanks for the reviews!
Worried about tracking my N55, guess I'll have to just see how it does at a TT event and go from there. CSF radiator is #1 on my list of performance mods once I get to know the car. Too bad the oil cooler is kinda shit, they have a slightly nicer looking one for the F series cars but I guess that won't fit our E chassis. |
