http://www.motorsportreg.com/events/...1#.VE67Lfl4rMt

just want to get some instructor time. i just dont feel comfortable really pushing the 135, my first rwd at 38 years old. i had my vw dialed in exactly how i liked it and knew its limitations and could just slide through corners around town and the 2 times at lime rock, but that was fwd. the 135i is rwd and has close to 200hp on the 2.0t from the vw i have 2 friends that race a lot, one actually just got NASA-NE GTS 3 Champion this weekend.

Just leave all the nannies on you will be fine. The one is pretty balanced and wont try to kill you. Thunderbolt has plenty of run off too so if you probably wont understeer into a wall.

Will be there

Hey Mike,

I just got bumped up from wait list to registered, so I will be there. I have done one on Lightening in my last car and it was awesome. Looking forward to getting out there in the one.

Let me know what you will be driving and I will come find you. I will be in a red 2011 135i and will be there with a friend in a red Carrera S.

Steve

great day and learning. i was in hot laps with instructor, basically go as fast as you can. got 4 25 minute sessions. being only the second time on a track, and first time was only 5 laps at lrp with a fwd vw i was very cautious my first session, and i didnt know the track. after that though i was pushing it good. probably would have been better to start out with a mini cooper and not 400hp car. drove the car around in map 1 on the jb4.

it was cold but i definitely would consider a track setup for tires, the hankooks are excellent hp street tires but just dont have enough grip for the track. i feel like the car would benefit from a m3 fsb and maybe a 15mm rsb to help with the understeer.

i would love to try to get out of the last turn almost flat but thats gonna take a lot of practice.

the brakes felt good but on the last session started squealing. they held up good with all the stops from 125-130 off the straight then hard braking for turn 1.

all in all i was happy and am hooked. lost it on the last session and spun out at the second to last tun and was about 10 feet from the rail. car was ok and finished the session.

i need practice, practice, practice and a knowledge of the track is key. love it but its gotta be pretty rough on the car, 4th gear most of the time except for the straights and 3rd gear for turn 5. gotta change my oil this weekend. i went through a full tank of gas for the 100 minutes of driving.

god bless the instructors, i dont know if id be comfortable jumping in the car with someone with no track experience and hitting the speeds i did.

Sounds like you had fun. I feel the same way about the instructors they have nerves of steel getting into cars with complete strangers who are about to drive like lunatics. I did two events at that track this year and had similar observations as you with regard to how the car handled. I have 235/265 PSS on apex wheels and while the grip was good there was bit of roll and understeer. I have since put dinan plates on because I had a minor rub on big potholes so I am curious to see how it will feel at next years events. With regards to the brakes I had no issues at this track. I went in june when it was hot out and they did fine, the pedal got a little soft late in the sessions but I was never afraid.

Its good to see more 1's represented at these track days maybe next year I'll see you at one.

Awesome day

Hey Mike - Nice meeting you! Was definitely a fun day. My last session I managed to keep up with a recent M3 for quite a few laps. At the same time, I was also being easily lapped by an E36 M3. Definitely all driver when you are as bad as me...
