Unfortunately I am out for the Texas Two Step due to a TDE event at TWS earlier in the month.

However, I am registering for the "No Excuses" tri-state event at Hallett in September I just have to wait until tomorrow to know if I am doing the 2 or 3 day (depends how many are scheduled off on that Friday at work). It should be good but if not I am already starting to feel "sick" LOL.

Mark did you decide if you are going or not?

The Texas Two Step looks good! I should be attending, but I will try to get a family member to register as well. Looking forward to this one!

Sorry Phillip...Mark beat me too it. They won't let you sign up for the 3 day w/o approval though. Mark sent the OK email for me to the driving instuctor cordinating the event. Thanks again Mark.

Weekend after Labor Day.

time for all of you that are curious about a DE to get ON TRACK!

Registration is now open!
Mark, I'm trying to generate some interest from Tejas Chapter members in the Central Texas area. I think I can go that weekend. I've only been to MSR once, but it was a nice track and should be fun. I just need to figure out which run group to pick.

Looks like there is a Best Western just down the road. Is this the best bet for lodging?

YES...its is directly across the street from the track. Usually you get a better rate by calling them direct to make your reservation. Ask for the track rate. It should be something like 79.00 per nite. It is a really nice hotel IMO...

registered for Hallett - No Excuses doing the Fri thru Sun deal to get some extra practice time and learn the track

now where to stay... there are cheaper places than the host hotel. do i down grade my standard and save 40 bucks or just stay at the host hotel? Wait...I've stayed at the Manor House in CS doing TWS and was OK...it doesn't get much dumpier that So i think I'll save some money

Very nice Andrew, thank you for snapping these. Massive turnout Saturday, but mine was the only 1M. I particularly enjoyed the resounding "Das ist gut!" as I was heading out.

Imagine my surprise!

Heading down to Hamilton TX on a little two lane country highway when what appears before me but a VO 1M! I've only ever seen maybe 3-4 other 1Ms the entire time I've owned mine in Dallas so to see one out in the country was pretty cool!

Was it anyone on here? Enjoyed hanging with you for a while. I think we gave those country folks a real treat

I finally got a chance to top out the car this weekend too. Was somwhere around 155. I was surprised how hard the car pulled all the way up to the speed limiter. Also very inpressed with the stability at that speed. I had a e36/8 mcoupe and it was horrible above 150. The 1m felt nice and planted!

Hey, Robertm... That was me! I was wondering if it was a local forum member. When I first saw you in my RVM, I thought you were a 135i (couldn't see the details of the front bumper). Love seeing you pass me. This was also my first time seeing another 1M on the road. I've seen lots at Cars and Coffee and in Munich, but this was a nice random meeting.

I didn't top my car out this weekend, but I've had it up to 155-160 before on some empty Texas roads. Totally agree with out planted and solid it feels at speed.

BTW, what was happening in Hamilton. There were tons of people there. Some type of event?

Steve

Hamilton was having their annual Dove Festival. As in opening day of dove season so lets have a parade I guess. We got lucky and made it through town about 1 minute before they closed the main road down.

We did stop by on our way back and ate at Wenzel Meat market. I recommend stopping in there and grabbing a sandwich if you're ever in the area. The pulled pork was awesome! I've heard they have a great Buffalo hamburger too. Filled with bacon fat to give it flavor

Any autocross coming up this month?

My next track event isn't until the Texas two-step, would like to stretch the 1M's legs between now and then doing some "competitive" driving.

Sounds like a great time. I was driving to meet a friend to drive his S2000 that he's selling, and we made a deal, so I'm adding a 2002 S2000 to the garage on Saturday. I think a 1M and an S2000 will complement each other quite nicely. Good thing I have friends with trucks, eh?

Here is the rear camera view from the 3rd session on Sunday at Hallett with the No Excuses 5 BMWCCA event. My best time of the weekend was a 1:32 and I see areas for improvement on that track that could get me to the 1:30 mark next time.

If you ever get a chance to go to Hallett do it. Its a fun track and I think it is my new favorite track!

My front view camera was acting up so i didnt get anything good there. However, the M3 chasing me in the below video did get the whole session as well. I am going to try to do a side by side with overlay once he sends me his video.

Agreed Hallett is such a cool track. Really love going up there! In case you haven't be indocrinated yet you NEED to go to the Rib Crib next time you are up there. Then you HAVE to get a Barbarito. It simply isn't a complete trip to Hallett w/o one

Couldn't make the vid work btw. Tells me I need to upload to my channel or something weird like that..

Oh I have been introduced to the Rib Crib. I use to live in Tulsa and would go there every Tuesday night for the All you can eat ribs.

I was partial to the Super Spud myself.

Actually my mom lives in Ada and they put a Rib Crib there so I get it more often when I go visit. My favorite place in Tulsa is The Brothers Hooligan though...a little dive joint with the best fried chicken strips and livers i have ever had. The steaks are great too...

I brought over the wrong link. The video should work now.
