BMW Melbourne 2 Series Launch Party

A few snaps of the event. Overall great night. I believe it was love at first sight when I walked in and saw the blondie DJ. The 2 series, not so much for me but that's just my opinion Feel free to add your own pics, I just took some crappy phone stuff y'know :P

First thing's first (This is 1addicts after all!) Got plenty of attention

OMfknG a 2002. Screw the 2 series they need to bring that back.

What did you think of the 2 series in the flesh? It looks to me like they don't really know whether they want it to be more like a 1 series or a 3 series. It's just the strange cousin...

Looks a lot like what a current-shape 3-series coupe would have looked like if they made it to my eyes. There was a 4 series in the dealership, that looked fabulous in comparison.

I actually liked the 2 series. It looks just like a more modern 1 series but yet not too different.
I've put my name down for a test drive, curious to see how it rides and the new idrive controller.

My biggest criticism of the car is that now you can't have adults in the rear seats. The roof line tapers down, you simply can't sit upright ... unless you're a midget.

So as an existing 1-series owner, no I wouldn't upgrade to a 2, it's not different enough, but I can see how it will attract new buyers.
Also, I prefer the look of the 2 over a 4. For me, a 4 series just looks to fat and mature from some angles.

The blonde was too skinny. I prefer strong looking females not skinny ones. Go to any crossfit website for examples of what I'm talking about. Strong is the new beautiful! My friend did comment that she wishes she was as skinny as the blondie though lol.

Anyway back to the 2 series lol. I thought it looked really good in real life. The rear in particular is a lot nicer in person than in pictures. I hate the rear in pic but don't actually mind it in real life. Two of my friends who were there with me, one who has a 135i, the other a 1M and M135i, both were of the same view as me. But I just can't imagine that it would drive that differently to my M135i.

Having missed the invite from Chris, must be in the mail, at BMW Melbourne, I have no idea what it looks like IRL, but I do like the front and side aspects of it, the rear and rear qtr views I reserve judgement till I see it in person.

Way, why would you think it would drive differently to a M135? It's like saying a 335i and a 435 drive significantly different. It has what 5kw more and weighs about the same, same g/box, drive train (no LSD) and the same platform. To me it is more about style over practicality and, generally, you will always find me buying something that at least is easy on the eye balls.

M2 come on down.

It's interesting and great how our views differ I'm with Pete A here, it was under-whelming in the flesh for me.

As I had posted in other thread, whilst it look modern and different to the 135i, it doesn't really look that much different if that makes sense. I was imagining the 1M beside it and felt the 1M's wider flares and lower stance differentiate the 2 cars.

I assume the 1M at the Melbourne launch would have attracted a few keen eyes. Was it placed side by side to the new 2?

A SC at the Trivett launch turned the engine over (under building cover) and once the exhaust kicked in with the hood wide open, neither sound from front nor back impressed.

Personally prefer the e82s and can't imagine why any 135i, M135i and 1M owner would feel need to change over.

On the DJs, def agree with WAY, way way too skinny Check out 'Boss Girls' on Facebook

Saw both of these today, I must say I prefer the 1 Series M... Those flared guards are awesome and the feel in the cabin etc.. car feels more compact.

Garage List
2009 BMW 135i  [5.76]
Test drove one this morning. I liked it. Comfortable, and handles hands down better than a 135i. Looks better too. Could use maybe bigger wheels or wider offset, but other than that pretty impressed.

I went to the launch in Perth. A sales guy asked me what I thought of the M235i looks and he got a little offended when I said "meh....it's OK". He then spent 15 minutes extolling the virtues of it - I didn't mind, the apple martinis were OK

I admit that I am definitely biased because I have my 1er looking the way I want. I have heard a bit of criticism about the rear end on the 2 series and there are certain things I'm not fond of, but I think the thing that really bugged me the most aesthetically, was the straight bonnet line.

That's not very difficult to achieve, looking better than a M135i. The front for the 2 is nothing special, but at least it is not offensive. All BMW has to do with the m135i LCI is to have the face of the 2 and it will look fine.

This video has a nice overview of the performance bits on the M235i in a manual (yes please) in the states. The exhaust sounds really nice. Review is garbage..personally I'm keen to hear what Chris Harris has to say about it so I can start saving pennies for an M2 lol
