I drive the acschnitzer 135i, not the 1M///. Acs1 and 1M/// power output is exactly the same. It would no be no surprise if both are using the Same software. So the 1M/// pulls About 380bhp crank, depending in THE fuel you use.

To play devil's advocate here, I think people might be reading into this drone as being a problem as opposed to a symptom. As we all know, extracting extra performance via a free flowing exhaust leads to less packing and more noise. Drone comes from a combination of resonance within an exhaust system combined with the area within, and layout of, the interior of the car. The only drone I've experienced comes under load; the more load, the noisier the drone tends to be. But coming from an R53 Mini Cooper S with a Magnaflow cat-back exhaust, the 1M is equivalent to a quiet walk in the park.

We want our cars to perform. We want our cars to sound aggressive under throttle. In my opinion, some added noise in the cabin comes with the territory.

My R53 "S" had a gutted Magnaflow and catless header, so I agree with you 1000 percent, the exhaust sound of the 1M is nothing compared to these cars.

After driving my R53, I don't hear any drone in the 1M at all

To better assess the drone issue we should identify the following factors:
1. Ambient temp
2. Windows open or closed
3. Road surface condition
4. Sport or normal mode

I can report that my new 1M has a fair amount if tire noise on concrete highway surfaces. Asphalt is much quieter. Temp was 83F. Windows up. Almost thought it was drone until the road surface changed from concrete to asphalt.

OP: can we get the poll to include these factors so that affected vehicles have posted all relevant info?

you guys are all wrong, because car and driver said the tt-rs has the drone at highway speeds and its annoying, not the 1m, so whatever they say must be the truth so you guys don't know what you're talking about

This Drone issue is one of the reasons why most Autos these days can't even be heard. We asked for a better sounding M car and BMW gave us one. Why bitch about the fact you just bought a Limited Edition Sports car with a louder than Toyota exhaust system. You can always buy a 135i muffler if you want and go back to a quiet system. Or turn up the Stereo.

My 05 Subaru STi with a Turbo Back high flow system is quite loud always and yes there a few points on the Tachometer where it drones a bit but I paid to increase both the performance and the noise.

I know you can't please everyone all the time but guys these cars are not for everyone. That's why they don't have an Auto Transmissions as well.

I came from a JCW MINI as well and between the drone of the JCW exhaust, short wheel base, and hard run flats a little drone from a 1M is no problem to tolerate. when i notice it i just turn the stereo up a little, downshift and give it some gas.

I'm just lucky to have such a sweet car...drone or no drone!!!

I think I also have the drone, but I don't think it's a problem, just how it is designed to be!, or at least a side effect of trying to get some decent sound out of the exhaust.

(I would prefer not to have the drone, but then the car may be too quiet).

Will have numbers for you tonight. I dont hear the drone in my 1M, so we can compare data. Let me know if you measured total peak db in the cabin or used an offset for ambient cabin noise prior to driving.

I will try to measure with a DB meter over the week-end to see the difference, and will post results.

UPDATED**
I have taken measurements in the car driving in 6th gear from 55-70 mph,
lowest reading I got was 86-87 db, when drone is present I got peak readings of 97db.
Here are the data from my drone-free 1M:
Average: 87dB
Peak: 93dB
All readings taken at 60-70mph under load in 6th gear, 2300-2600 rpm. 83F temp. Highway.

For info, my car had around 200 miles on odometer at moment of the test.

From the moment I first drove my car, I was sure, there was going to be a thread like this. While you're at it, you might as well complain about the suspension setup and the steering that does not offer enough power assist. My car has almost 5.000km and I love the sound. Drone included. I want to hear and feel what I'm driving. Maybe you should buy a 7series if you don't!

Take it easy... why so much aggressiveness?
I can deal with every aspect of this car, I wouldn't see myself driving 300+km
with the actual sound levels, I can barely hear my girlfriend talking...
Maybe that's a plus thinking about it....
