wheel and tire warranty

Has anyone else been told that if snow tires are installed on OEM rims, that there is no warranty for the rims should you hit a pothole?

Pretty weak if you ask me....:bs:

It doesn't matter which tires you have on them - as there is no road damage warranty on OEM rims unless you purchase one for additional $$ from a dealer.

you mean normally there is warranty on hitting potholes? Surely that's an "accident" and either to be claimed on insurance if you want or just paid.

Of interest because I will be buying another set of rims and some snow tyres before the winter.

It doesn't matter what kind of tires you have. BMW's 4yr/50k will not cover pothole or curb damage.

It's an extra option that the dealer will offer you when you sign the final paperwork. I passed. In 30 years of driving I only once damaged a rim. I'm not aware of any maker offering a warranty on rims in the event of hitting something.

I bought the Tire and Wheel warranty when I bought my car. Already had one run-flat replaced, so I already broke even.

I was told that if the snow tires were purchased & mounted by a BMW dealer then the warranty not only covers the rims but the also the new snow tires.

Basically whatever rims/tires your car is wearing is covered as long everything was sold & fitted by a BMW dealer.

You'd probably need to pay extra warranty if you upgrade say, from 17"s to 18"s.

I'd contact your SA & double check before you change anything despite what anyone here (including me!) says.

I was told the same thing if the dealer sells the winter tire package.

that's correct. and they also don't replace the tires for normal wear, so in order to keep the warranty you'd need to pay to replace the runflats under normal conditions. i don't think it's worth it, but my dad was buying me the car and bought the warranty anyways... even though i'm going to replace the entire wheel/tire package within the next year...

hit a pot hole the other day and popped my oem run flat tire, i have the tire/wheel protection package so a new tire was free. i was told if i put winter tires like the blizzaks which i am going to purchase they will also be covered by the wheel and protection package.

Also i think the protection package is worth it because the run flats tend to blow and are not cheap plus the rims are super expensive.

I was talking to the bmw dealer who sold me my car and he said he had a guy come in to replace 6 run flat tires 2 wheels in one season and he still doesnt have the protection package.....ouch
