N54 Vs N55

I was surprised when I ran against my buddy in his 2009 in my 2013. He is FBO N54, a stage 3 custom tune from a German turner here in southern Germany. He also took his back seat out, has coilovers, lighter wheels, and better tires. I have JB4 stg 2 ISO with BMS 3.5 downpipe, BMS intake, BMW performance exhaust and 2 gallons of e85 with my JB4 on map 5, and stock runflats.

2nd gear 25mph roll: both of us just spun, he got traction before me and jumped a little ahead but I caught up.

3rd gear 40mph roll 1st run: The lower torque band of the N55 and JB4 gave me the jump and I pulled about 1 car on him by about 120mph.

3rd gear 60mph roll: The torque took it again and I was about 1.5 lengths ahead by about 120mph

All and all it was great fun.. Gotta love Germany for the autobahns....

We have a time set up for both of us to get these things on the dyno next week...

I think it's Dmacc who uses this stuff with his Stage 1 tune and N54. He posted some vids up of an airstrip event against an FBO non-E85 1M and absolutely wiped the floor with it along with some other big metal.

I'd love to try it but they pulled e85 in the U.K .

From what I understand by reading posts on here and seeing a couple of vids regarding N54 vs N55 is that mod for mod the N54 will be faster. Tune only on both, N54 would be faster, both on e85, N54 again etc.

It's insane how much power we can get with a lil mix of e85

I think one of the biggest differences in our cars is the tune. He has a custom tune on his N54 and I have JB4 stage 2 ISO on my N55.

He also has no sunroof and has a upgraded intercooler. I think that's why I was so surprised with the outcome. There is another 1er N54 here that just has a down pipe, catback and JB4 stage 3. He beats the guy with FBO and the custom tune by about the same as I did...

Agree, its the tune N54 vs N55 same JB4 ISO setup & options the N54 will win. Would have been a happy camper if my 135is had come with an N54 like my 335is.

You guys should drag on the Autobahn in sixth gear from 100 kph to 250 kph (when there is no traffic of course!!). You will then see "who" has the better tune & HP numbers. Take wheel spin out of the equation. I think its gonna be an awfully close drag though.

There is a lot of 60mph to 130mph runs in "Mexico" late at night & airport 1/2 mile from 40MPH to whatever you have. N54’s with JB4’s are the pick of the litter with COBB looking pretty good. A couple of N54 JB4 cars

The top end is pure power & these cars are doing about 260kpm at the finish

i'd agree, the reason the N55 is faster is the N54 tune sucks, N55's tend to be just below 400whp, where the N54's are much much higher

And slow. 6th's ratio is no where near "drag" worthy. Throw it in 4th and youll get the same idea but without it seeming like a snail race

E85 is the stuff! Good runs from what it sounds like, I bet you felt pretty awesome pulling on your buddy with one turbo instead of his two

I went out and ran him again. Same results, I get about 1 car on him and up high in the rpms he inches forward till we shift again. I can see how the twin turbos and his upgraded intercooler help his car breath up high. I think with his tune his boost doesn't back off as much as my jb4 as you get closer to redline. We ran all the way till I hit my 155 mph limit and I was about 1-1.5 cars on him. He told me the other night he was going to go buy a Cobb AP..

On a side note.... I also ran against a R33 GTR making 420 HP.. Also beat him till I hit my 155MPH cut off.

The gtr is prolly making more hp than you at 420. However that numbers irrelevant until your near top speed. But he is heavier than you. Any idea where his tq numbers are as that's what accelerates you? That's prolly the only number ill really be interested in if I ever find a dyno to go to.
