135i on the Dyno

We got the 135 to the dyno shop yesterday. It put out 279.4 hp at the wheels and 295 lb-ft of torque. Still awaiting the dyno graph printouts (printer problems at the shop) but I have the video up on YouTube.

comparing the test done by the sweedish group "rototest", the 335 has
282 BHP & 284 Lb-ft at the wheels. Looks like 135 has a touch less BHP but a noticeable increase in torque to the wheels. Ive requested the group to test the 135i, but i think it wont be anytime soon :iono:

UK135i, manufactures quote power at the flywheel which is always higher than what is recorded at the wheels. If this makes you feel any better, AUDI quotes the RS4 as having 413 BHP. However it records 328BHP at the wheels(http://www.rri.se/popup/performanceg...p?ChartsID=769).

Have a peruse through this website : http://www.rri.se/

So, realistically, what do the technical people on here predict that a stock 135i is pushing out at the flywheel?

Just curious to know if BMW are under quoting the bhp figure of 302?

So, excuse my stupidity, but how much is usually lost by the time it gets to the wheels: 10%, 15%?

15% - 18% as an average.

What will be overlooked by this one dyno is:

1. Each dyno and or dyno type will show different results from 135i to 135i
2. Every 135i will dyno different hp/tq numbers
3. A dyno/car can dyno different from day to day on the same dyno.

Dynos are reference points to show stock power to the wheels and A/F ratios. This allows you to better understand the power / A/F implications of modifications to the car. It also allows you to be able to fine tune your modifications.

There is NO ARGUMENT that the twin turbo motor is underrated by BMW from the factory.

That being said, these numbers are in line with "some" 335i dynos. So it would seem that the engines are not de-tuned. (mag trap speeds also show this)

The problem with the 1st good dyno result is that everyone takes it and starts to cross thread the internet forums with the 328/347 mighty 135i. It becomes the 135i dyno LAW. It becomes the stuff that internet car arguments are made of. Mag Racers are getting their paper and calculators ready.

15% seems to be generally accepted for powertrain loss. Either BMW makes super efficient powertrains, or the 135i is considerably underrated, just like the 335i is.

279hp at the wheels translates to just over 320hp at the crank, using 15% loss. :roundel:

Wow! I guess it is a bit underrated then, just like the 335i is. We are looking at well over 300/300, as stated by BMW USA. Thanks for posting, Bryan!!

Do you happen to have the dyno graph you could post too? It would be cool to compare it to a stock 335i dyno, to see if power delivery has been modified between teh cars.

so that would equate to 330 to 340 hp at the flywheel ... assuming typical loss rates.

328.7 to be exact assuming 279.4 hp and 15% loss rate :w00t:
