Sway/strut bars etc...
So can anyone explain these and why they have them on their rides (135) in lemans terms?? This will be the first car I'm modding and no googling will help me understand these things... I hear about people getting the rear sway bar
Thanks. |

From what i've read, to upgrade the rear sway bar, you must drop the axle. it's a good 4-5 hour job. The front sway bar it's pretty thick to begin with. It's definitly worth it to switch the back because it's a tooth pick compared to the upgrade. Front stock and H&R is almost exactly same diameter.

BTW, if you can, before you touch the suspension. Really get the feel for you stock suspension. I like to change one thing at a time. this will allow you to "feel" the difference. Some people like to change it all at once too, because it saves time and money.

I have gone from no sways in a scion tc to adding aftermarket ones. What I felt was more body stiffness which decreased body roll. It was night and day at the speeds I could take corners in. It was almost as if it tried to diffuse the G-forces of a hard turn all over the car, as opposed to just the inner most wheel of the turn.
In the Bimmer, it already has sways, which connect one side to the other... i wonder myself what difference THICKER sways have on the car. I know the answer is better, but how much? Considering that the BMW sway is like $800, it would be interesting to note the performance to dollar ratio.

I'm pretty new to this stuff as well, and I found a pretty nice compilation of posts of what seems to be very informative posts from VWVortex.
