How BEST to launch a 6MT ???
Hey Guys, new on this forum and this is probably not the best way of introducing myself but HI
So I had a Autobox 135i but recently got bored and wanted more action so I opted for a 6MT 135i (Bone Stock). Now when I used to launch my Auto, the surge was instant, minimal wheelspin and very little sideways action - straight up and gone! In contrary, I am still learning the Manual but it is definitely much more of a feat launching that. I am presently launching at 3500rpm with DTC fully off. Car spins and I get some steer but shoots off afterwards. Something tells me I can get more from this launch - any ideas or tried and tested advice? The launch on the Auto seemed more responsive - is it me or do I just need to perfect the MT to get the edge over the DCT and Auto colleagues??? |

I think there are too many other variables; suspension, tires (composite, wear amount, pressure), asphault temp/prep, and driver seat time to adjust.
Maybe you have stock tires so probably no need to flutter the gas pedal to stay in boost while launching (might get too much wheels spin, you will have a find a rev point and get the feathering of throttle down for a slight screech of tires, but without a final bog and full out spin. Just my $.02, everyone will have a different opinion. for myself, would visit a drag strip (if available), time slips don't lie, sounds like you just have issues with your 60' |

Find your self best way... That means practice practice practice... There is no secret things. Just if you want to fully feel your clutch use a CDV delete. Good luck

I did a bunch of launches on an unrestricted road the other night. I was trying to find the best RPM range that would have minimal tire slippage and wear on the clutch or tranny.
What I did was Turn off DSC/DTC rev the engine to about 2100-2300 rpm, dump the clutch, full throttle, ease off a bit to let the tires catch and you'll be at 60 in 5 sec easy. I'll see if I can post my video I recorded Last edited by Ivan_Sal; 10-22-2011 at 07:46 AM.. |

@RimasRS - Thank you, will definitely do some homework around the CDV delete. I have been practicing but now trying to optimize!
@Ivan Sal - I am based inland so 2300rpm is slightly low for me. I found close to 3000rpm works well. It would be great if you could post up those vids! |
