Jet Black and Savannah_Personal Review
I'd like to start this thread for people considering Jet black on Savannah 135i vert. I'd also like to provide a short personal review of my first few days in the vehicle.
I'll start by saying that when I purchased this vehicle I didn't have any inticipation on purchasing the 1 series with out the sport package. However since the new lease/finance rates were release I couldn't resist and my dealer offered me a deal that I couldn't refuse. I traded in my 06 330i 6 speed sport/prem/cold package/sat for this vehicle. With that said I had to eat 8 payments in order to buy this vehicle, so thank god I got a great deal, all in all it was a wash as far as payments go. Same payment and not much money out of pocket. Unprofessional review: :iono: I will say that I'm very glad I stepped up to this engine and went to a Convertible, however there are a few things I did notice compared to my old 330i, from an ergonimical standpoint the window control buttons are horrible, I keep hitting my elbow on the all windows down button and it's driving me crazy, they should have put the window control buttons in the same location as the e46 down by the stick shift. In a car with less room they really needed to do this. ON the other hand everything else seems to be ergonimically correct if not better than the 3 series. As for the drive, this car has excellent straight line acceleration and very strong handling however has a very prominet oversteer issue. My 330i would have and still could eat this car for lunch on the twisties. I'm definately looking to upgrade my susupension and wheels immeidately after the winter. The stick shift is much more precise and isn't as notchy as it was on my 330i, over all it has an excellent clutch and shift feel. However sever dive and squat issues (this will hopefully be fixed after my suspension upgrade). Outside and inside of the car is truly incredible, the interior quality is just as good if not better than my 330i. The rear seats are pretty much useless unless you have a 2-10 year old child and not many more than 1 of them. If you put any older or more peeople than 3 then good luck. However, I might add that the trunk is actually pretty decent size with both the top up and down. By the way the outside looks pretty god damn good too. The ride Quality isn't the best in the world past 80 mph, I'm experiencing significant vibration and lot's of engine feedback in the stick. THis may be normal but I don't think so.....I think it's related to the All season OEM tires. I'll replace those shortly and let everyone know if the quality improves. In my opinion I think it's the tires...TBC. I'm done boring people with the details, here's some pics. :eyebulge:

Interesting......you seem to have the only one with "a very prominent oversteer issue".
Everyone else complains of understeer.

understeer, sorry. No matter what, the car needs an aftermarket suspension, it has too much dive, squat and understeer.

I agree, but I liked the color combo + I got if for around 6k off retail because it was an 08. I'll take the extra cash and purchase some Breytons put some dinan software in it, new suspension and all will be forgiven for not purchasing it with the sport package. However I will miss the sport seats in the sport package.

this is in response to my last statement in my post, regarding some issues with ride quality after 80 mph, turns out the dealer delivered my car with all four wheels out of balance...WTF. I gave them high marks on the customer service survey.

just an update, now that the car is 2 months old I'm really liking it. it took sometime to get used too and compared to my 330i it may actually handle better in certain instances. the turn in is a lot quicker and the tossability of it is much better than the 3 series. However one thing I don't think is as good as my 3 is the way you can accelerate into corners, the 3 is much better in this area, however that may just be because of my 17's with all seasons, I can wait to put my 18's on with ultra performance tires, that might help. Other than that a few complaints I have is that my roof leaks a little when using a high pressure washer, according to the SA it happens. Also, this car has a lot of squeeks and rattles. the build quality may not be as good as the 3, however that may just be because it's a convertible. Another complaint I have is that there isn't much out there for suspensions for the convertible. Other than that I love this thing.
I'd also like to add that I don't even listen to my radio anymore, I just roll down the windows and listen to the exhaust note...sounds even better with the top down. Last edited by trfortin69; 02-12-2009 at 09:14 PM.. |
