And that "glue kit" (betalink) is a mess and is VERY permanent. I would not recommend it for a DIY'er. The 3M Tape is a much safer solution and plenty of people have used it with no spoilers flying off or flexing if done correctly.

Agree that its hard to see in a picture. The roof probably looks much better IRL. I had the same problem taking pictures of the carbon mirrors to make them look like IRL. Love them IRL but quite hard to take photo of them... ;-)

Any experiences with removing it or does it permanently damage the rear deck?

The oem spoiler is attached by double sided tape, just make sure you apply the 3M tape On all areas that have contact with the boot lid, I used a heat gun to lightly warm the boot lid before applying the spoiler just to help the bonding process, no movement so far even after half a dozen washes...... |

Do you guys have any stuff to share regarding the tape and how you did apply it? I mean if there is something you learned or did wrong when you mounted it? So I don't repeat mistakes in the weekend... ;-)

Yes, if you try to remove spoiler applied with betalink, you will have to sand and repaint trunk. It does NOT come off with dental floss or fishing line, or heat guns. It is VERY permanent.

Link to the 3M PT1100 tape info:
http://multimedia.3m.com/mws/mediawe...T%20Series.pdf That was the recommendation from the Swedish 3M to mount a wing on a car. Not sure if there are any other view on this? No I will not use beta link! Agree with you all! Its important that I can restore the original OEM spoiler on the car if needed. If I sell someday I think its important that people buying can decide to keep the performance look or go back to full OEM look again. |

Does anyone know or has anyone heard of Duke Dynamics, Vancouver CA. They announce a 2012 release (if enough interest!!) E82 CSL style spoiler on their website http://www.dukedynamics.com/products/bmw_e82.php diffuser looks interesting to.

Duke Dynamics have actually been around for quite a while focusing on the E9x platform since 2008 or 2009. Their products were okay and had mixed reviews on e90post.

I want someone create a "miracle solution" to non-finished side crease as well, there should be a real vent or at least something like the fake vents on the rear bumper like even BMW designers intended but didn't happen because of some technical problems. Not a wrap though, something which is going to look like the Jon Sibal's rendering (again). |

sorry to drag this 'old' thread out.....BUT i was thinking of actually removing the little stuck on OEM rear decklid spoiler and give it a more 'clean' look. I don't think i generally ever reach speeds in which downforce will become a real issue. I saw the photos of the AW 1M with the 'de-spoiled' look and it looks really nice. Does anyone have any photos of a VO 1M with the 'de-spoiled' look?
thanks! |
