Buying a 2013 135i
I'm thinking about pulling the trigger on ordering myself a 135i. I'm stationed in Bamberg Germany, anybody anywhere close to me?
I have owned a bunch of rx7's. I just have two boys now so I need something with some kind of back seat... I've been lurking around the forum now for a few weeks now researching the basics. I've been a member on the rx7 forum(rx7club) for about 12 years now so I know how these forums seem to work. How often do you guys run at the ring? I have a military license, can I use that to drive on the open track days? Thanks |

If the boys are out of child seats but haven't grown up, they might fit back there.
So long as your license permits you to drive on public roads, you can drive the 'Ring on Tourist Drive days. Just watch the forums, people post up about trips fairly often. And even if you don't drive it, it's well worth the trip just for the car show in the car park. I would advise you do a ride along before you drive it. Even after hundreds (thousands?) of laps on Forza and Gran Turismo it was a huge shock the first time. Go easy, watch for traffic and wrecks, and don't worry about your lap time.

Hey there! Glad to have a new member. I say go ahead and pull the trigger on it!
I was a Z man all my life just like you were with rx7's. The 1 crowd is just as awesome, just a little more contained and exclusive. Which I kinda like it this way. We post on here all the time about group trips even if it's just one or two of us. And you can do the same thing! I have only been twice to the ring, but am planning another trip soon my friend. I have a buddy on orders to Bamberg. He is a euro tuner, good guy and a dog handler. Welcome to the 1 crowd!

Back seat is not bad as long as they are not too tall, then they might be a little uncomfortable. If your talking about your tactical/GOV license will not work for your POV. I'm pretty sure you have to take a test and get your international or whatever they call it in Germany. I'm sure some of the others can chime in what you need to get your license. Welcome and you'll love the car.

its called a USAREUR license, the test isn't hard just make sure you study the signs and who has the right of way. Most of the questions on the test can be answered by applying common sense. Thats the license you need to drive in Germany and on the Ring. As these guys said we go to the Ring fairly often and I believe we are attempting to take over Hockenheimring for an evening in the near future. If you don't have your car by then shoot one of us a PM and we will find someone close to you that can grab you on the way.

What JK said.
After getting the USAREUR license, you'll also need an International Driving License if you're going to drive outside of Germany.

Yeah, I have been in Bamberg for about 1.5 years so I have my USAREUR license. I already have a 2010 CX-7 so that's the family car. This is just for me and every once in awhile the kids might need to ride in it. They are still in booster seats though, by looking at the rear seats when I went on the test drive they look like they will fit.
If I sign the papers Monday I'm told that the car will be ordered and be here in the beginning of October. He also told me that he will give me a loaner while the car is on order. |

I'm sure I'm set on the 135i because of the added features and the inline 6. He didn't have a 128i for me to drive to see the difference, how much of a difference does the extra power make when driving the 128i?

Welcome to the 1Addicts forums.
Reach out to Dave aka Dackelone, who's there in Bamberg also...maybe he can let you check his 135 out to see if this is really the best fit for your growing family. For what it's worth, I owned a 135 for two years and put one kid in the back whenever we went out as a family. And I stuck two 16-year-olds in the back for a long trip to Stelvio and it was fine..just a pain with only two doors but totally doable.

I just found out a couple of my old MP buddies are on the way to Bamberg next month, so I might head up that way at some point. I give you a shout if so. -David

I just picked up the loaner they gave me while I wait for my car to come in. A 2012 135i with the 7speed DCT, had some fun on the autobahn.
