Indicating your front and rear brakes may need to be changed. When did you change them and did you also change the sensors?

You have to replace the sensors every time you do a brake job.

Have you tried resetting the brake lights via my DIY? I think you will need new sensors and then try it. But if you wait too long... the car needs a "hard" reset which only a dealer or indi can do with a GT1 scan tool.

My understanding is that if the sensors have worn to the point where the metal wire is exposed - then you they need to be replace them. If you don't want to replace sensors, just get a new set, plug them in, and zip tie them up. The computer will still show you how many miles are left - the sensors are so that the computer is given a different signal when there is a relatively small amount of pad material left. It will then switch to 200 miles left (or something like that).
Hope that helps. -Joe |

someone should check the resistance of a normal wear sensor. Then you can just find a resistor of the same value and solder that in instead of using the sensor which is undoubtably more expensive.

The system is not that sophisticated. On older bmw's when the sensor would wear down... it would open the wire circuit and the pad light would come on. Many a shade tree mechanic would just cut off the old sensor and solder or crimp the pad sensor wires together. Then the light would be off. I wonder IF our cars system is so crude. ?
