Sydney & Surrounds Owners
Well, it's an idea that's been giving me some thinking lately..
For the Sydney & surrounds owners, has there been any thought into developing a car club? I thought it'd be a great idea. Organising meets, low-cost track & driver training days, some fun events etc. It would require some work, but that's something my absolute adoration for these cars would make no problem for me. If you think it's a good/bad idea, or just have comments/suggestions, let me know! |

I'd be down, as would my missus, so we'd happily be members No. 2 & 3.
The bloody 1'ers seem to literally cause an addiction, but a social addiction is ok right ? On a slightly more serious note it is fun to go on planned drives, weekends away meets etc. From the people i have met face to face thus far we all appear to be of a similar mindset and everyone is very friendly. It'd also be interesting for group buys, modifications and resource.

You're completely right - when I did the Southern Highlands Drive day in October it was great I met a few others at Rhodes early for a coffee before heading off and that was a great welcome. Everyone is fantastic, no wankers at all, and very approachable. I think my girl was even surprised as Saturday was the first time she met any other 1addicts people - i brought my best mate to the Southern Highlands day as i didn't want to be yelled at all day to "Slow down" Depending on numbers, the membership would be absolutely minimal. It would basically only mean the upkeep on a website and printing materials, perhaps a small decal for the car and that's about it. But the access to group buys and cheap track days would be the biggest advantage! |

I have good contacts for decals, badges, chrome plating through work. With the JDCA (jag club) they meet every month on a thursday night and have a meeting with different "registers" dependant upon the specific class/model of car. There is a couple of ways it could be done really. I would be interested to know if there is a BMW drivers club, and if they have a 1 series register. If they dont, we could always just join it, and create one. I think keeping close affiliation with 1addicts would be beneficial, maybe even seeing if a specific forum could be hosted for Australian car clubs withing the regional forum. The thing which i wish we could change is how difficult it is to first find the forums. This is where a membership fee could help with raising profile and ease of finding the website/car club.

To quote Ben Stiller "Du Et !"
I was speaking to someone yesterday about how the Mazda MX5 club got started and he gave me a few suggestions. 1) get a listing of all the 1'ers sold over the past year 2) get the dealers to hand out a business card with contact info at delivery. 3) Make some nice enamled name badges made at a company like Aiden Trophies. 4) Get in contact with BMW Germany and try to get on the recognised car club lists for factory support and access to parts and information. I'll see if my contact at bmw Sydney is willing to help out with the first two.
