Dash Airbag Indentation

Well I have an intresting development, on my passenger side of the dash, near/where the airbag is, a airbag indention is growing. I had the dealer check it out, they looked at some of the other 1er's on the display floor, and you know what. They had what seemed to be a very slight outline of a indention also, but mine is worse than just a slight outline. Here are a couple pics.

Looks more like a scrape. Take it to the dealer. Unless they can repalce that part of the dash, all you can have done is to repray that area....it will be good to go.

I did take it to the dealer, it is a indention. It started as a very small outline and has grown.

I have the exact same thing on my dash. You can see the left side like yours, but also the right side. Its very strange indeed.

This is for the airbag. It is a part of the dash that has been "precut" so that the airbag can easily come out, when it is deployed for an emergency situation. My car has the same thing ... it's the way the dash is made. Nothing is wrong.

I know its for the airbag, but damn, the pictures just dont do it any justice. I'm telling you this indention looks terrible. Most are just slightly noticeable, but this is way noticeable. Does your look like this? 5000 miles ago the dash was pristine.

I have the same thing... hadn't looked at it close enough to see that it was an indention... I figured maybe I scuffed it with something.

I agree that a slight outline of the airbag on the dash is well, "acceptable". I have two other non bmw cars, both with passenger side airbags in the dash and with significant miles on them, and there dash doesnt have a airbag indention growing on them. Like I said 5000 miles ago the dash was pristine, then a slight outline appeared, and now its worse.

At one year & 14,000 miles, there are no marks or surface irregularities on my 1er's airbag cover.

!!Not Being a Jerk!!!

Try "Indentation", not "Indention" (indention refers to the indenting of a line in writing, like when you hit "tab" on your keyboard to start a paragraph).

that would be "now, if only your driving...".

"now only if your driving...." is emphasizing the "now", but without any beginning to the sentence to state "what now".

My friend, it is in the pronunciation of the word that what is on my dash is a in-den-shen not a in-den-shun, while you are correct and indentation would work I choose in-den-shen. After reading the definitions again, I guess it really wouldn't matter which you choose, but I still choose in-den-shen. So, do you have a indention on your dash?

in·den·tion (ĭn-děn'shən)
n.
    1. The act of indenting.
    2. The condition of being indented.
  1. The blank space between a margin and the beginning of an indented line.
  2. Archaic An indentation or dent.
in⋅den⋅tion  [in-den-shuhn]
–noun
1.the indenting of a line or lines in writing or printing.
2.the blank space left by indenting.
3.the act of indenting; state of being indented.
4.Archaic. an indentation or notch.

My friend. I wouldn't have posted unless I knew what I was saying. Unless you are using Archaic English, both of those definitions refer to writing.

BTW: I haven't noticed any marks on my dash from this.
