135i hifi system upgrades?

What are some good options to make the hifi system equal the hk/logic system? Anything available that would meet this up to $1k?

Whats the consensus on the bavsound setup?

I also noticed MUSICAR makes a kit, but it's considerably more pricey

Look at getting a processor, I have heard it is better than replacing equipement for a $1000 budget.

With this stuff it is often a case of "you get what you pay for". The MusicCarNW kits are really good quality speakers and amps and they have done all of the wiring loom for you so they are properly Plug N Play. They've also done all the research to make sure that the equipment matches up nicely with what's already in the car so that you get the best bang for buck.

While a DSP will give you much better quality sound to your speakers you are not going to get much actual audible improvement if the speakers themselves are still sub-par.

JL Audio XD700/5 amp
Audiocontrol EQS processor
Earthquake SWS-8 subs with 1/4" spacers

That's the other way to go.... but please note that Adam hasn't just upgraded the speakers. He has done speakers, amp, and processor. One would also assume that he either knows how to program the DSP or paid someone else to do it.

You can't go better than a full custom system but it's not going to be:

a) the cheapest option
b) the quickest option or
c) the easiest option

If you have the time/money/expertise to select, install, and configure custom components then by all means do. You will definitely get the best result.

However, if you are asking some of the questions I have seen in this thread (not bashing anyone - just gauging levels of knowledge based on questions asked) then I'd still recommend you go with something like the MusicCar systems - where a professional has done all of the heavy lifting for you...

MusicarNW Level 2 here... It is absolutely a night and day difference. Sound quality and SPL, it's killer.

For what it's worth, Focal has BMW upgrades now, including the underseat subs! I may well be pursuing a full install in the next few months...

I 100% agree. I am so glad I spent the money on the upgrade.

LOL at the comments

PS

Mobile Innovations did a great job and had great customer service. I drove from across town for the install and I'm glad I did

They used to have prices on the website... If I recall correctly, I have about $2k or so wrapped up in it. I have everything replaced except the rear deck speakers. This includes two amps. One for the cabin speakers/subs and one dedicated for the sub. If you're serious about improving the audio, this is the best route. Just replacing the speakers isn't going to a whole lot. Maybe a little more clarity, but the amp is the weakest link. This thing just sounds good and full now. It gets painful before it even distorts. They use serious gear as well. Not stuff you're going to find in your local Best Buy. Morel components and I opted for the ARC audio sub in the rear as opposed to the JL. I went more the SQ route (as opposed to my younger years: VW. BASS. MORE. NOW.) Don't let that fool you though, you can make the thing slam pretty hard and it'll blow your doors off, but sound good!

The install is straight forward. Everything's in the trunk. There's a video on youtube showing the install for the sub at least.
