Awesome...talk about your ultimate DIY project...I like the way he labeled the car... 332i brilliant stuff!!...lesser individuals would just tag an //M3 badge on the tail...it's all in the details.

I'll quote someone else's reply on that board:

With that amount of cash you could have had a new M3 or almost new plus the SuperCharger....

Can't believe he got the wiring done himself with only one misswire !!

Wow. Not sure I am feeling the end product, but taste is a very personal thing, the guy's DIY abilities are above reproach.

Wow. Thanks for sharing that. When I was a younger person I did basically the same thing with a 1968 Camaro.... ah the memories! That guy did an awesome job!

The electrical wiring part alone is enough to get my brains severely rattled. I can't believe he had the balls to take on the wires...but mad props!

He's more than likely a student at MIT based on his godly electronics know how, and he also has a link to some page at MIT on his signature.

Usually engineer types aren't very good at the physical part of wiring, only diagrams.....

Amazing. I don't know what to say other than WOW.

One will really be screwed if one tries to take that 332i down on the road.

that is amazing.... but wouldnt it be easier to buy one?? he did spend $75k. had he bought a 2001 m3 it would of cost him about 35-40k and still have money for mods. i wonder if he can throw in the m5 engine for me???

Very good DIY but I think I'd have to agree with others, essentially he just made a homemade M3 (Ya it has 4 doors but that's not that big a deal imo). If I was going to go to all that effort I'd want something completely unique when I was done. Turning a 525it into a M5t might be kind of cool .

I tend to agree. An E46 is an E46, no matter if it's M coupe, or sedan. 98% of the parts were direct bolt-on. The only other problem to deal with is the rear fenders that would need to be rolled (which he did) to hold the massive M rubber. Still, cudos for a 4-door M.

I don't think it was about the money as much as it was about the experience of basically building your own M3.

If you have enough money to do things like that...then you need something else to excite you. This guy could have gone and bought an M3...but he wanted to "bond" with this car, do something that would fullfil and he did it :-)

A GREAT read...really enjoyed it!
