Yup, SiG man myself, infact 229 is my favorite, I have both a 229R DAK and SAS.

I always wanted the 229. Walther make a neat little 9mm. Glocks are of course an option, but I'm not a fan of the way they chose to implement their version of a "safety".

I think my favor home defense weapon is my Rem. 1100 with its skeet barrel.

absolutely right. personally, i'll take the 7.62 x 51 G3. although the G36 is the latest, greatest.

I know...... politically incorrect.... Also it might scare the foreign tourists.
A friend and US Marshall has a device like this in his vehicle for storage of his spare pistol. He also has a whole trunk of scary weapons. If you live in a state that allows concealed weapons you should be carrying it with you or lock it in your glove box when leaving the vehicle.

In Europe, it is not unusual for police offiicers to be armed with SMGs. In the UK, they are strange in that the cops are either unarmed, or have MP5s.

Or better yet. The HK G36C (C is for compact)
The G36C is cool looking and all, but that 8.5" bbl is next to useless. 5.56 needs velocity to be effective and, regardless of HK's marketing BS about the efficiency of their gas system, you aren't going to get a lot of velocity out of an 8.5". Go google the work of a Dr Fackler and see what he has to say about the effectiveness of 5.56mm ammo that is traveling below 2200fps (hint: it is about as effective as a .22 LR). We've got guys in the sandbox right now with < 14" bbl weapons (motivated by vehicle operations) who are getting hits on Haji and wondering why he isn't going down and then blaming 5.56 and the reason is that the velocity on those weapons beyond about 10 yards is about the same as a fat kid running.

Glove box? I hope you don't mean that literally.

I got one similar to that and gonna mount it in the "stow box" in the trunk. I can get my full size as well as my compact in there, each with two mags.

6.8 SPC baby!!!

Zendriver, you got it all wrong, the shorty 5.56 is only for clearing out the people in front of the E90 when one is haul ass down the back alley way. The big boy is waiting on the exit end with the 50's

I remember hearing guys in late 2001/early 2002 using M14's (7.62mm) because the 5.56mm didn't have enough punch. I also have a USMC friend who say's the 5.56mm was plenty effective up to 400 meters.

Doesn't HK have a .45cal SMP? Now that'll nock you on u'r arse.

Plenty of M14s found their way to Iraq and Afgh in the sniper/designated marksman roll. Big Army/USMC keep talking about using one of the numerous 7.62 semi auto AR platform variants out there and there are numerous projects therein. Having said that, 7.62 was chosen because ranges in the early stages of Iraq were longer then they are now.

2 Factors:

- USMC is still using the M16A4 while Big Army has gone almost all M4 (for many units). More velocity out of the M16's longer bbl and therefor, better effective range.
- USMC are generally better shots then Big Army (not to insult any Army here, but shooting is a religion with the Marines where as it is a check-box FITREP line item for Soldiers). CNS shots are CNS shots. Hit Haji in the head and he's going down.

The SMG is dead my friend, sorta like the shotgun. As much as I appreciate the .45 (and the 1911 platform), a pistol caliber round is designed for pistols and pistols exist as a means to fight to your rifle and that rifle needs to be 5.56 (or 6.8 SPC if they ever get that pig to fly).

For real small-form-factor stopping power why not the FN Five-seveN? Able to shoot up to 20 5.7x28mm rounds that are capable of penetrating the US Army PASGT Kevlar Vest at a range of 300m and a CRISAT Titanium/Kevlar Vest at 100m.

Unfortunately it's only available to government/military or law enforcement personnel.
