Mastercard/Amex?

Good topic here: http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=9095

I'm putting down 10k for the 135i on delivery, anyone know if dealers must/can accept MC or AMEX for that $10k? I just want the points

the interchange rules set by the rba that govern credit card usage in australia are completely different to that of the us. that thread must be taken with a grain of salt....

So thats a no? I have the cash, I was just going to put it into the credit card and then pay it like that. Just a standard flat fee, no charges.

simple kris, ask them the fee if you paid the amount you want to pay (which should, i think, be no more than 0.05% of the transaction value) and then see whether you could just buy your ff points cheaper from the rewards company - if not then go for it!

I put down that much on CC to get the points as a deposit, that was with visa. I'm sure it's okay for MC or amex.

sorry mate. i have a personal gripe about this too. complain to the rba. they screw with us on ic fees just because some bozos can't manage their credit lines with maturity.

Depends on the dealer. They may charge you a couple of percent for it (more if Amex). I put $15k on AMex on my AMG for the same reason as you Kris.

Wayne, did they charge you? Amex told me there is nothing they can do about merchant imposed fees. However, I just called mastercard based in the states and they said its against Mastercard practices to impose merchant fees on consumers. Does this then mean if BMW accept mastercard and slug me $275 then I can dispute this charge with BMW and or Mastercard and get my money back??

My email to BMW after they replied 'Mastercard attracts $150 charge'

Hi XXXXX

Thanks.

The purpose for this is of course frequent flyer points. I called Mastercard who said it's against Mastercard Merchant practices to impose Fees on consumers ONLY for Mastercard purchases. Amex has no official rules and therefore fees are able to be charged.

With this in mind, will BMW accept a mastercard payment of $10,000 without fees for the deposit. I know Trivett has a system that allows consumers to buy cars or pay for deposits using such cards for this very purpose

Hoping we can work something out.

Regards
Kris

Nope they didn't charge me. But of course they have a much bigger margin with the AMG as well. All comes down to how much they are willing to absorb as a business.

i'm betting they will scale it. no fees up to 5000 and something like 2.5% thereafter. 15000 for wayne's car makes sense as their fee-free component.

Kris..I am a Amex and M/C merchant..
BMW would be paying 3.4% on the transaction to Amex..
Where on the other hand M/C merchant fee would attract about 0.8% to the dealer depending on which bank they are with..

Las week I was at a Lexus dealer and ask the same question to guy in finance, they told me that if I wanted to pay for the whole car by credit card (75,000) that was fine, they accept that, but only the first 5,000 were free, the rest I would have to pay their commision, and Amex, charges more, so that means I would have to pay more if I use it than if I use a Visa, but that way I could get my points.
