Race Weekend Update:
First Oil Temp. Since adding another cooler the car runs at 120 degrees c. Qualifying: We qualified 3rd fastest but started 2nd for Race 1. As some cars have two drivers the driver starting the race starts from their qualifying time. We are running 265/35/18 tyres on the rear now, instead of the 255. Race 1, 65 laps, 200km: Led into turn one having beaten an Evo 10 off the line. All cars must do a compulsory pitstop. We did this under safety car on around lap 8, two tyres off the car and then back on for Class A cars. Rejoined at the rear. When the other cars completed these compulsory stops we were in first place. we led until having to pit for fuel on lap 35. We don't have the 100l tank in as yet, it arrived late. We were the only lead car whpo had to stop to fill the tank completely, I guess that happens when you running the OEM tank in a 200km race. We finished 1 lap down in 6th place. Overall a very satisfying result for the first real test. Many positivies and we are learning and making set up changes. Race 2 is this afternoon, starting 6th. 4.30pm Queensland time. Sound like the car is competitive right off the bat. Congrats man! If you had to stop for fuel why didn't you wait until then to do the mandatory tire change as well?
Regardless great first showing and good luck in the next race! |

Not allowed to re-fuel during the compulsory pitstop. Next time the big tank will be fitted.

Race 2
65 laps, 200km
We started Race 2 from P6. By the end of lap 1 we were in the lead. We were pulling away when at teh end of lap 2 the engine warning light came on. I reset the car on the roll, back to P3. We stayed in top 3 until we pitted on lap 28, came out in 4th. Got back to 2nd before pitting for CPS on lap 42 and put new front left tyre on. Rejoined 6th. Got to fifth before pitting on 60 for splash of fuel. We had water temp warnings throughout the race putting it in limp mode. No faults stored in car, thinking probably a sensor more than the radiators but we were there to learn and will now investigate. We'll strip components and check wear before heading out for testing again. I'll put a link up with some on board vision in the coming days. The biggest surprise was setting the lap record, link below: http://www.natsoft.com.au/cgi-bin/re...8/2012.QR1.R24 |

Awesome job! Sounds like you guys are going to kick some serious butt there pretty soon
It's really impressive that you've been able to build a car that competitive right away. Any issues with the brakes acting up while braking in a turn? |

No brake issue, just having to get use to them. The system is different from my old E46 M3. The pedal goes really hard on ABS and then can be a little long on the next application but comes back. I do find the car very tail happy if you try to trail brake to far into a faster corner. The rear end wants to overtake the front a lot more than the M3. All part of learning the car. For the last 3 years I've been driving a front wheel drive MINI Challenge car, that was a learning curve in itself and now to go back to a powerful rear wheel drive is an enjoyable challenge. |

Do you use same brake pads front and rear? If so change brake pads rear to less aggressive for better trail braking.
You can also lower the rear end of the car to get it more stable. And you should put on a bmw carbon rear lip with a rear spoiler. |
