Dealer says no ED for 1 series for 6 months

Just got an email from my dealer saying that as of now there won't be allocation for ED for the 1 series, and that I have to wait 6 months before it is available. What is this all about:iono:? I have already started planning my trip hoping to go test out the 135 at the ring and driving to Spain. I know that some of you on this forum are doing ED so please help me out. I'm going to talk to my dealer tomorrow Friday to figure things out. I would really appreciate any advice to be able to do ED. Thanks

It's up to the dealer. They have to do ED out of THEIR allocation. If they won't do it, then that's that. My Dealer has no problems doing an ED order for me.

I had to call around to several dealers before finding one that would do ED. If your dealer doesn't want to do it, there's really not much you can do save look for another one.

The thing is I'm pretty sure I'm on their first allocations list so I don't see the problem?

Shop around to other dealers... I was #2 on the list, first allocation... the earliest I can pickup however is April, just like the other guys on this thread.

I think the problem is that there's a lesser profit margin for the dealership going the ED route, so even though you're on the first allocation for the dealer (if you want it shipped to the US), they won't want to miss out on the profit margin opportunity since they have such limited allocations. If you don't buy it shipped to the dealer, they know someone else will.

Has anyone done the math using invoice prices? Assuming you're paying MSRP for both, what's the $$ difference in dealer profit for a nicely equipped 135i for normal delivery versus ED?

Euro Delivery is offered - the dealer just has to be willing to use one of their alotted spots to make it happen.

Taking Euro Delivery of mine in April. Can't wait.

Regarding price difference to the dealer - I understand the only difference to is they do not receive the additional BMW incentive money (referred to as holdback on domestic cars).

Okay, I did the math, as shown below. The difference between ED and domestic delivery for a 135i with ZSP, ZPP, and metallic paint is...

$195.

We have plenty of people in the know around who can explain what difference additional incentive/holdback $$ makes... how much are we talking about here? Given the widespread reluctance to allow ED on early allocations, I'm really curious.

For some reason $400 sticks in my mind. They only receive this, by the way, if customer feedback scores are above a certain level. Not all dealers receive this spiff, I am told.

If a customer wants Euro Delivery and the dealership judges that he/she will bring in repeat business, it makes a lot of sense to pass on the potential $500.

The reason BMW can charge less is they don't pay dealers any incentives for the ED, according to bimmerfest. They have a huge article on ED:

Great link, thanks. From that article:

Quote:
Because BMW NA does not pay out this incentive money, they are able to pass along those savings to you in the form of a reduced price on an ED car. The amount of the discount is approximately equal to the potential CSI money a dealer would receive on the sale of the same car through US delivery.
So we're talking thousands of $$; that makes much more sense (cents? :wink than $195. It sounds like the OP's dealer is guessing that ED 1ers will come out of dealer allocation for about the first 6 months.

Maybe one of the reasons, but I'm sure there are many others.

Several dealers up here in the PNW were willing to offer ED. My 135i ED is in May.
