found out 2 new things on my e90 - DTC / hiding ipod wires

it continues to surprise me even after 2 months.
I might be naive, but did anyone know that if you hold the dtc button for about 2 seconds it will allow you to skid all you want. I was only pressing it once and the DTC would activate, but now with DTC and DSC off i can take off a lot faster!!!

Also underneath the center console's rubber box, there's a bunch of little tunnels perfect for hiding all those extra wires on you're ipod/phone installation. I will post pics of mine tomorrow. Good night

Yep, sure did. Never pressed the button on my car once yet but maybe one day.

Hope you enjoy the faster take offs.

My understanding that when you push the button the DTC turns off (not on), when you hold it down the DSC turns off also. By default when you start the car both systems are on.

I always hit the DTC button as soon as I start the car... I hate it cutting the throttle everytime I hit a bump while accelerating.

No, the DTC program is off when starting the car and DSC is on. If you press the DTC button once, the DTC program is enabled--allowing more wheelspin and slid. Pressing the DTC button for a few seconds disables both DTC and DSC completely.

You have it the other way around.

DTC and DSC Are both enabled when the car is started. Thus not showing either the DTC or the Little Circle.

When you press the Button once. The DTC feature is now DISABLED
Allowing wheel spin. While in DTC DISABLED mode the car will not allow you to take it sideways. DSC will kick in and try to correct the slide.

Holding the Button for 5 Seconds Disables the Entire System. DTC and DSC Is now DISABLED. Now you can drive like a nut, spin all you want and go sideways all day long.

One quick press of the DTC button. The Indicator goes away and now DTC and DSC is back to ENABLED mode.

Sorry, but tctic has it right.

DTC is a subset of DSC that is "revealed" only when DSC is deactivated partially by pressing the DTC button once quickly. The keyword is "partially", as DTC allows more wheelspin and intervenes less than DSC. DTC is supposed to be used in partially slippery conditions (eg. getting out of a snowbank) where you'd still want some wheelspin without DSC braking the wheel completely. Trust us Canadians! We see enough snow here to need to use this function.

Check page 87 of 245 in the pdf manual.

Visor and Tctic are right. You can confirm by starting your car and then press and release(don't hold it down) the DTC button while watching your dash display. It will show that you just turned DTC ON with the first push of the button.

I think I saw it each time, but let me just say thanks for posting it again. I hate when people just write: "do a search".

to you!

I have to look for tunnels at lunch now! I have wires tucked under the lip of the console that I'd love to move! Anyone know how to remove the console panels?

You said pressing DTC turns off DTC. This is not true. Pressing DTC turns off DSC and displays DTC so you know it's still on.

If your confused, think of it like this. When you turn on your car, all saftey checks are on, DSC/DTC.

When you press it once one of the two either DSC or DTC is turned off. This allows a little slippage for use to allow the wheels to spin alittle if your trying to drive in snow, mud.

Hold down the button for a few secs and let go and BOTH DSC/DTC are turned off for full wheel slippage ability. This is if you want to do some drifting, power slides, and what not.

Exactly, I dont know why people get confused over this...like BMW would include all that safety equipment, then have it turned off as standard!! Of course DTC and DSC are turned ON as standard.

NO! Come on people, read the page posted. When you start your car, DSC is ON and DTC is OFF.

If you press the button and release, you turn DTC ON
If you press AND HOLD the putton for 3 seconds, you turn of DSC which, in turn, turns off DTC(if it was on) because, since DTC is a version of DSC, DTC cannot be on when DSC is off

Let's review...

After starting car DSC = ON, DTC = OFF

Press and release button toggles DTC ON/OFF
First press after starting car turns DTC ON
Second press turns DTC OFF

Press and HOLD button for 3 seconds toggles BOTH DSC AND DTC ON/OFF
First press and hold(3 secs) turns BOTH DSC and DTC OFF
Second press and hold(3 secs) turns BOTH DSC and DTC ON

I can't spell it out any clearer.

no no no, DTC and DSC are on, as DTC is a part of DSC, when you press the button once, you are turning on just the DTC without the rest of the DSC. Holding the button turns off both.

The manual is just not worded very clearly.
