Assuming un*imited funds, I strong*y recommend rep*acing a** 4 at the same time. I'd rather put 4 cheep tires on and save for a better set than rep*ace one expensive tire...especia**y with a rep*acement of different techno*ogy and tread history.
I don't know what effect 1/2" in diameter difference wou*d make on a car's overa** a*ignment, but I wou*d suspect it to be substantia*.

I agree, it would be best to swap out all the tires. This will be done when the threads running low. For now I'll try and match the other set if I get approved for it to be pro rated. |

I admit my gas mileage is not the lowest as I average in mixed conditions & light spirited sprints to the speed limit about 11.1 l/100. If I am extra bad its closer to 12 l/100. Thats about 21.19 - 19.6 mpg
if I am boring I would assume a mixed 10 l/100. Freeway only, I can cruise near 7.1 l/100 or 33.13 mpg. More realistically its probably 9 l/100 or 26.14 mpg. In any case I tend to average about 450-500 km between fill ups.

Update:
- Opened the hood and noticed the "suction hood" was not connected to the airbox(doubt this will make a difference). Number 14: http://parts.bmwofsouthatlanta.com/s...=0&modelYear=0 -Charcoal and air filter looked clean. -Replaced the air filter with a Fram unit for now. -Cleaned the MAF sensor with electronics cleaner -Sprayed in some intake cleaner. -Reset throttle adaptation(doubt this will do anything for MPG) Vehicle has more pep but still guzzling gas. Next would be the plugs, highly unlikely they are bad as the air filter was pretty clean. This leaves the 02 sensors and possibly the fuel filter/pressure regulator assy. The dealer basically won't do crap if there's no code. |

reset the MPG thing with the button on the stalk. when i first got my car and couldnt stop speeding around, i got 15mpg everywhere. I would drive 50 miles of highway a day and it wouldnt rise at all. Once i reset it and drove normally, it settled to 25mpg and has stayed there since with a consistent driving style. I remember i had this issue and i completely forgot about it. Not sure if it will fix it but it worked for me. My car only had 25.5k on it when i got it and i did this at probably 26k.

You could get Torque and an ELM327 and see the 'percentage of fuel remaining' (resolved to 0.1 percent) on your phone at anytime while in Bluetooth range... My app divides GPS miles travelled by Gallons Used. My numbers are somewhat skewed from what the OBC says. Sometimes better, sometimes worse. But generally better than you are getting. I don't pay much attention to MPG anymore - it's just another indication of overall vehicle health, something good to have when you can't read oil pressure or temp. Andrey_GTA: not very long. Boring driving is wasted time.

Long awaited update.
So Alex and Dennis at Rallye BMW really took care of my car, great guys and very knowledgable! They did the injection service, oil change and upgraded my DME software. The mileage has improved to 16-17 mpg city and this is with my wife driving on and off on the gas pedal. On the highway I see great mpg's sometimes around 30 if driving consistently. I think the biggest culprate was the dme software. The transmission shifted at a higher rpm and now shifts at a lower rpm. Overall I am very pleased with the car, and my wife has noticed a great improvement which is relief for me! I am also considering installing a AFE or Injen intake and an exhaust to maybe boost the mpg a little more, but no final determination hasnt been made yet. Big thanks to Alex, Dennis, Dackelone and the forum! |
