I would still have the 135. Its a monster when it needs to be and completely normal when you want to relax.

its not that they do not want to sell it here they could care less if it took buyers way from the mustang which it wont its because of all the restrictions we have here in the Usa it does not meet the standards which are very strict here.

No, you are guessing wrong.

I meant 39000 Euros, not dollars. Given that a 135i costs about the same in Euros, how much do you think it would cost in the US??? Now will you give it a rest please?

It's very expensive, you are paying a staggering amount for the RS badge, in the US absolutely nobody would pay the $35-40k price tag.

Like the other poster said, you cannot transform the currencies and get the price in a particular market. Here is for example, a new 135i on the same website:
http://www.autoscout24.ch/AS24Web/De...7&page=1&row=6
56k chf, close.

Let's wait and see what the official price will be.

Here's the funny thing, I assumed your numbers were correct until I saw a video on another message board. The video was a review of the RS by Firth Gear and in that video they said the cost of the RS was $25k pounds. That's why I assumed you converted pounds to dollars to come up with your price.

Unless you're an expert on tax codes and exchange rates, forget the Eu/$ conversions. European governements want cars to be expensive in part to discourage everyone from owning one. They US clearly does the opposite. It's the same with gas prices. You can't just convert euros to dollars.

Ford could have easily added the RS to the US market along with the base Focus. They chose not to. One other possible reason is that they don't have much faith in it's reliability which might be manageable if you only sell a couple thousand, but a big risk if you were to sell tens of thousands. They can get good press and buzz even if they only make a handful and the risk is minimal. Too bad that's too little, too late to save their asses.

It's mostly evident in the tax structure. It also can be explicit by varying degrees in different countries according to their political parties. The Green party is one such example. Limiting car ownership and use in major cities has been an on-going effort for decades. There are practical reasons, quality of life reasons, environmental reasons and philosophical reasons. Here in the US, the Mayor of NYC can't even get congestion tolls imposed on mid-town Manhattan which wouldn't bar cars, just raise the price for car access to meet the demand. On the one hand I appreciate the great mass transit systems Europeans have created as alternatives to cars (supported in no small part by the car related taxes), but on the other hand, I want my 1 and am very glad we have such a great range of choices.

The 135i lost points for being "too civilized?" It got the most praise of all the cars but wasn't considered for top prize because it's the one you could drive your grandmother around in without breaking her.

What a joke. I don't expect every reviewer to put the 1er first in every comparison, but come on??? A FWD Ford over a BMW? So, I guess people will ditch their RWD/AWD track cars for a Focus???

HAHA. Haywood you obviously have no idea. I love my 135, but the Ford Focus RS is a WRC winning car. 135 is yet to prove itself.

Don't knock Ford man. They are the best domestic manufacturer. And yes, I am a Ford guy, who happens to be a Bimmer fan (wierd combo right?)

I am stationed in Germany and Ford is a different deal here in Europe. I still think it is an odd comparison, because as fast as the RS (in Europe) is - I don't think I would cross-shop these cars. That said, the RS is well respected here - and it is nice to see the Blue Oval taking it to the Evos and STIs a little bit...too bad it isn't offered in the States...
