Brake Squeal

Hi All,

Ok so for awhile not my brakes are squealing more and more... mainly the rears i believe as when i stop the car on a downwards incline it is most noticeable.

I have checked the rotors and i admit they probably need a machine, the surface not 100% smooth.

I have searched other threads on the forum from people who believe the sensors are making brakes loud. As this is my first car with brake pad sensors can anyone comment?

In addition, the noise goes away for a day or 2 after i wash the car/ wheels and rotors, which leads me to believe it may be best to just buy some new rotors.

Im thinking upgrading front and rear with BMW performance items.

Anyone else having this same brake squeal?

I personaly think that when you start to hear this brake squeal... your time is limited to how much longer your brake pads can go. I first started to otice some brake squeal six months ago. Then I recently had my ECU read with a BT scan tool. I had 30% left on my front AND rear brake pads. I never have owned a car were the rear pads wear the same as the fronts. I think we can credit this to the DTC ie no real LSD.

I am about to replace my brake pads all around too. Don't forget to bleed your brake fluid too guys.

Back from the dead with this thread- sorry.

My brakes are squealing too....except it says on iDrive they're not due for replacement for another 22000 (Front) and 44000 (Rear)! Pads that is.

There is a minor amount of lip on the front rotors. Nothing major though. Is that the cause of the squeal?

Squealing after new rotors/pads?? Hmm...so changing it doesn't necessarily help. Are they original items or 3rd party?

Typical on BMWs. Had that on my 318i. No change after new rotors. I know a number of people had it on their 135i. I was luck enough not to have the problem on the 135 and 125.

My car currently squeals too, but last time when I replaced my pads and sensors it was all good. I've been told it's the sensors that cause it.
