Actually does anyone have photos of a 1er next to an e46? I always think my 135 is bigger than the e46 when driving next to one, but I've never seen comparison pictures.
The e46 and our cars I think are the perfect size. I remember seeing that overlay drawing on here of the e82 vs e46 and they're about the same size, but think the e82 is a hair smaller. Here's the drawing. I've always found the e82 to just be a slightly modernized/updated version of the e46, though I still think the e46 M3 is a hair better looking. I parked mine next to one a few months ago on my street to compare them.

Wow, I didn't think I'd get anything that detailed lol are the wider than the e46, or still about the same? That's pretty cool how close they are. And yes I agree, stock for stock135i is better looking than base e46, but m3 is better looking than 135i. But modified 135i>m3.

i'm with you. i never cared much for the E46 coupe....thought it looked very pedestrian. The E46 M3, on the other hand, always looked quite beefed up and cool! The E82 is much more artful and interesting than the standard E46 coupe----with its slashes, angles, and bulges. Though i do acknowledge what Greg is saying that the E82 coupe looked like it was at least somewhat influenced by the E46---i'm glad they didn't make it as dull!

I agree with all on all fronts. When you look at the evolution, there seems to be no connection whatsoever between the e46 and the e92. Yet, you can see the similarities between the e46 and e82 and looks like it'd be the next generation of that car. I was looking at e46 M3s again the other day as I've always wanted one, but whenever I hear that exhaust, it sounds atrocious and has nothing on the sweet sound of our engines with the PE. I also prefer our low-end torque. Problem is, once you've driven our car for awhile, going to a car that is missing that low-end torque and needs to be revved high to get the max power, you may find yourself disappointed. We're spoiled.

Naa, I've listened to every kind, hated them all. It may just be that ours sounds so amazing, everything else will pale in comparison. Perhaps I'll just get an M2 or M4 as my next car. I also need to win the lottery on Wednesday apparently.

Yeah, I love the size of the E82, too. It feels just right.

I'm an E46 M3 fanboy, and Greg, give it a try one day if you have not yet. The induction noise, mhmmmmm. I think the sound coming both from the engine and the exhaust is something I wish I could experience IRL. Guess it's too late, though...

The more important question is, why do you have a loaner to begin with? Problem with the car or just your first service?

I'd be intrigued to hear someone's thoughts comparing a 135 to an X1 35 msport since it should drive pretty similar to a wagon version of our car.

Also, did you demand a matching deep sea blue X1? =P Can't tell if it's deep sea or lemans.

Greg, he's probably just getting an Inspection II. Doesn't he have like 60,000 miles on the car now?

i've 'only' driven 60 miles in it so far and i really like it....much better than the horrendous Rav4 i had this morning and much nicer to drive than the last Audi Q5 i'd driven when i got it as a loaner for my last Audi A3 quattro service (what i had before the 135is). It feels very 'car-like' and i'm sure the M Sport package helps. The 8 speed ZF gearbox is BLAH and quite slow though.....i still don't understand how people compare it to a DCT. It's definitely not to that standard.

squeaky brake pedal!!! lol. they fixed it last time....but it still squeaks.

it's Le Mans.....i like the colour, although it's not as complex as deep sea blue.

The X1 always looked very odd to me, but I've never driven one to judge. Isn't the new 2 series active tourist model or whatever they call that thing supposed to replace the X1? They look like they would overlap quite a bit and both have that weird minivanish shape lol.
Anyway I'd like to report that the summer RFTs absolutely blow in a quarter inch of snow. Was "fun" trying to get car into the driveway this morning haha.
I also finally did the throttle reset on my DCT. I didn't really hear anything at the 25 or 30 second marks so I just assumed nothing happened, but as soon as I started her up and went, wow what a difference. Faster clutch engagement, smoother starts and it actually shifts at a little higher range than before! (Just past 2k rpm with a tiny bit of throttle). I love the DCT even more now!

Sorry, I should have told you that you won't hear or see anything, but when you start it up, it will simply feel livelier. Or we're all insane and it's all in our heads. Still a distinct possibility.

No worries. Oh no mine actually jumped a bit the very first time it went to first gear after the reset, when before it would always slip the clutch. The second and third starts from 0 it got smoother but was still super crisp. Love it!

IT CAN DO DONUTS!!!

it's not that fun...but it can do them! the rear swings out pretty easily with all season tires (Rear-biased AWD system? not sure).

(i got kicked out by the cleaning crew today and got told i was ruining their scraping of snow....LOL)

BTW, i really like the X1. A very nice package. It's not a 'fun' car per se, but very nicely appointed and seems to be an honest, reasonably affordable, BMW family mobile. Probably the ONLY SUV i could be happy owning. I just wish it came with a manual gearbox. An N55 X1 with a manual gearbox would be one hell of a family-mobile.

HAHA yes they do!! the first storm of the year we had i was stuck on summer RFT and they felt like they were MADE of ice themselves! WTF! I put on Nokian Hakkapaliittas literally the next day. lol.

the X1 is really nice. Consider me a bit of a fan. I'd probably rather have this than an F30 3-series.....

(take that comment with a grain of salt, because the largest car i've ever owned was an A3 quattro...lol)
