Finally installed my SSK

Wasn't too bad a job. My only "OH, duh!" moment was realizing that the "special tool and bearing mount in the CCW direction" was from UNDER the car. CW from above in the cockpit FTW.

Love it, love it, love it. The factory SSK lever is essentially the same length as stock (actually slightly longer), it's the length under the fulcrum that gets substantially longer to create an over all shorter throw.
Kit was P/N 25 11 0 444 655

I also installed the BMS clutch stop which I love also but I'm going to remove one shim as my car doesn't think I have the clutch all the way in unless I step on it really hard. (I had a minor panic attack when my new car wouldn't respond when I pressed the start button...)

FWIW, and I realize this is the wrong place, but I will be selling the SSK knob and boot. I re-used the M-Sport knob and boot that came with the car.

Congrats on the shifter! And LOL at the car not starting, I had the same issue on my car haha. With full stack clutch end point was perfect, but not deep enough to engage the clutch switch, unfortunately.

I also had that issue. Took one washer out and it's perfect. How much shorter is the throw with the SSK? Compared to 135i/335i's the throw is already really short on n52's. I was debating getting one but decided against it as i don't want it too short.

Sweet! So you installed the 128i SSK P/N 25 11 0 444 655 in your 128i.

Why didn't you just order the SS lever and plastic bushing and some extra C-Clips? Since you did not need/use the Perf knob and boot. ?

(1) SSK lever p/n 25117542200
(1) plastic bushing p/n 25111220600
(4) C-clips p/n 25111220379

I didn't actually measure it, and the BMW blurb says "up to 25%, but I'd guess in the 18 to 20 percent range. It feels great and definitely not too short.

Easy, because I hadn't decided not to use them yet. I may change my mind still. I kind of like the heft/mass of the performance knob. It's smaller, but feels beefier in its own way. Hell, they take 30 seconds to change. I may keep them both and swap them out on a whim.

I analyzed my picture and based on what I could measure BMW's "up to 25%" is spot on in this application.

BMW shifter throws...

N54 = 80 mm's
N54 Perf SSK = 55 mm's
N55 = 70 mm's.

Didn't measure the actual throw but the ratio difference. Numbers are accurate enough for this analysis, 20 degree angle is random and irrelevant to the result.

I guess it boils down to: Whatever your 128i's shift lever throw is, if you put on this kit it will be about 25% less. I didn't do a throw measurement before and after and don't know the travel of the shift rod, so I can't calculate the actual throw, just the percentage difference.

You won't be thinking about angles and millimeters when you drive (I hope), just about how good it feels!

Thanks, Dack. I found P/N 25111220379 is also known as P/N 25117571899. Shifter C-Clips.

Updated BMWP SSK +AKG

I've collected all the parts. New BMWP SSK shift lever, new shift lever bearing/retainer, AKG DTM Selector Rod, and AKG Shifter Housing Bushings ready for a drop-in install to replace my existing BMWP SSK. Now, like always, I seek time to do the install.

Suprgnat have you been able to install the AKG selector rod and shifter arm bushings? I would love to get your impressions on them as I'll be doing a shifter refresh soon as well
