OEM Roof Rack install issue
Hey guys,
So I purchased an OEM BMW roof rack for my '12 135i (part #82 71 0 433 991). I tried installing it but when I adjusted the crossbars to the right width, I found that one of the bolts that hold the cross bars becomes obstructed by the aluminum in the cross bars... Did they send me a defective rack or is there something I'm missing? Any input from people with roof racks would be great! Did you guys have to adjust your mounts at all? Did you have a similar issue? Thanks!! |

Well so I went to the dealership to pick up a new roof rack base straight from the source and still the same issue. Could it be that it was a bad batch or roof racks? or did they change the roof rack mount points after 2012 on the 1 series??? I'm stumped
Here's a pic of where the bolts end up when you space the mounts correctly. Last edited by rz-jacks; 05-18-2016 at 11:45 PM.. Reason: image link |

I have the same issue but I thought it was because I am using the roof rack from an e90 , which in 2009 when I got my car had the same part number for the roof rack. I looked a few years ago and I thought they had changed the part number and fixed it. Are you sure you have the right part number?
I just deal with it. I tighten up that screw as much as I can but still allowing movement and then bolt the thing to the car. Haven't had a problem. |

Huh... that's super weird. Have you asked the dealer about it? If you're nice and seem frustrated I can't imagine they would mind walking out to take a look for you.

I've quadruple checked the part number on realOEM, at the dealer, online BMW website etc and it is indeed the right part number...
I think I might just have to deal with it. Luckily I have a machine shop at work and might be able to do a nice job of modifying it but still... kind of a bummer. I guess it beats paying $400 for a Yakima or Thule system |

I didn't even know those adjustments existed. I pulled mine right out of the box and it installed perfectly with no adjustment.

Have you sure you are using the right ones front & rear? I believe that our Mini the front bar is the one with the little wind deflectors on the underside. I'll check this AM when I go to work.

Yup front ones have the little rubber wind deflectors. double checked the stickers as well.
e36addict: When did you get yours? maybe they updated the design and missed that detail? If you have a part number from yours it would be sweet. I'm going to try and post more pics this weekend. |
