No matter what your purpose of the car is, you have to use a registered importer to bring it in. If it isn't a US spec or classic car, then it is probably going to require emissions and/or crash safety changes. Depending on the issue that can range from expensive to outright impossible depending on the change and the car. I've also read about plenty of cases that went through all that and the result ruined the car. When I looked into bringing a 335xdt over, I was told it would be a minimum of $10k if another had already been approved and there were no changes that needed to be done. If it was the first to come in and/or changes were needed, they were telling me to expect to have to pay roughly what the car cost new. Sometimes it's less and sometimes more, but that was their rule of thumb from experience. Then of course you have the cost of the car itself, shipping, and taxes. The idea of a (potentially) $100k+ 335xdt wasn't appealing enough for me. -dave |

Yeah, that's what I was getting at, not even the 3 series gets the 23d. But hey, the 1 is just a shortened 3 right, so the X1 is just a longer version...

I went to the IAA show in Frankfurt for the introduction of the X1. It is way to big for me.

I felt the exact opposite, way too small. I'd have problems taking 4 people and their luggage on a holiday without strapping stuff to the roof and you still wouldn't be able to use the rear view mirror since the back would be filled up. Waste of the term SUV/SAV if you ask me.

Whats even more weird is that the UK 335i M averages 33 mpg as oppose to 22 mpg in the US version. I think our government wants us to use more oil. thats about the only viable answer i can come up with.

UK Gallons do not equal US Gallons. Don't ask me why, but they are different forms of messurement. 1 US Gallons = .8 Imperial (UK) Gallons

It's probably been over 20 years since any European car maker has ever made a non-turbo diesel engine. |
