It's a BMW. That's the wrong question.

Have you looked at Mercedes? They make very pretty cars......

Decide what you wan't out of the car as far as space, utility, and what you intend to do with the car.

If you suspect you will normaly be hauling 3 frends around the 3 is probably a better choice, even as a coupe.

On the other hand if you are mostly going to be rolling solo or with one passenger, the 1 is a better choice, less weight = better fuel economy, plus the rear seats fold down.

If you want to Autocross then definatly the 1, If you suspect longer commutes are in your future I'd lean more toward the 3. Both are great cars, but they each serve a slighly diffrent need.

Drive them both and think about how you are going to use the car. That will tell you which one you want.

IMO the only benz's that look good are amg's...

I would take a 1 series with a sports package over a c300 any day, all day.

+1. Looks are irrelevant. Drive both the 3 & 1 and decide dynamically, not statically.

Do you like to listen to music enough to notice a difference? This seems like the easiest question to answer...

I have a very critical ear so I went with the upgrade (thought it's far from spectacular).

Lol that's the only one they could find for me in b.c that had sports and sound pack...
In Canada or at least b.c iPod comes standard, or at least that's what the guy I dealt with said. None the less I'm stoked and know I'm extrldinarly lucky for this to be my 1st car. =]
will post pics of it when I get her.

I've narrowed it down to the following 2 cars.
Bmw 128i Sport package, Premium package, Sound package
orrr a used 2010 328i coup, with Nav, Sport, auto with paddles, 4k Km's (sorry im from canada, i do not know how many miles that is)

What do you guys think?
Lucky you.

328i M-sport

EDIT:
I see you went with the 128i.
BTW, I don't see xenons.
Make sure to get xenons. They are a MUST have, especially in the dimly lit winters up north.

I can't believe BMW puts xenons as part of a "convenience package".
That's not a convenience.
Meanwhile, a digital compass rear view, and garage door opener are part of the ever expensive "premium pkg".
I'd gladly trade the compass rear view and garage opener for xenons any day.
The mirror and garage opener are more "convenience" than xenons, which I'd consider "high performance safety" feature.

I agree with your dad, 300hp is too much for you at this point.
The 128/328 will give you plenty of safe performance without letting you get into trouble as quickly.

Keep it safe junior.
And, do something incredibly nice for your grandparents.
