135i in Northwest Winter (rain and below 45F)

So I managed to skate thru a mild winter with the OEM wheels and rims. Any other northwest drivers have recommendations for winter tires in "normal" Portland and Seattle winter weather? We get snow about two to ten days in the winter but that is it.

I lived in Portland for three years. I don't remember any snow, but you should use winter or all-season tires below 40 degrees anyway. I personally would not want to use all-season tires in summer. Here in Maryland, we get a ton of rain all year and 1 or 2 weeks of snow. I am very happy with Dunlop Wintersport 3Ds. They are very good on cold pavement and more than good enough on the amount of snow and ice we get, but they are not intended for deep snow.

^^ My winter tires are 225/45/17 on 17x8 wheels. I don't know if the narrower and higher profile size was really necessary since we don't get much deep snow here.

Scott good question about the tires! First off you need to figure out what size you want to run, most rec 225/40/18 all around, but you can stagger if you like. Options range from a winter tire to all-season perf tires.

My personal opinion is that if you are going to get a set of tires for the winter, then get a set of winter tires. I have looked at the Toyo Proxes 4, an all season tire which performs well in the rain etc, but having a winter tire would be even better esp if the temps fall below 40. We do get that occasional dusting of snow/slush and a winter tire is going to perform far better than an all-season. So I will be taking off my summer tires in November for a set of winter tires on my spare wheels.

I am considering:
1. Bridgestone Blizzaks LM-60 ($708)
2. Dunlop SP Wintersport 3D ($744)**** my pick ****
3. Michelin Pilot Alpin PA3 ($828)

Yea, with the steep hills out here in SW Beaverton, if we get snow or ice, this is the place it'll hit; has done so every year for the past four or five.

Thanks, for the recommendations, Tim. I'll be switching over to winter tires in November. So I can do a staggered set up on my OEM rims? That'd be cool....then look at new rims in the spring.

I have used Wintersport 3D's the last two winters although there was absolutely no snow last winter but enormous snow the winter before. 3D's were pretty good and I live in a hilly area. I'm using 225/40/18's all around.
