I am heading out again tomorrow night but really dont get the way in which the lane/group is selected.

It appears that I am always in lane 2 with the riced up sh*tboxes and P-platers. What I would prefer would be to go up against some V8s etc.

I dont really care about ETs anymore, I just want to annoy some bogans.

So, to those in the know, when I am getting scrutineered, should I just ask the guy to put me in with the V8s (usually lane 3 or 4) or is there some method that they follow that just isnt apparent to me?

I think the main objective for the Staff is to fill out the lanes up in ascending order, so the earlier you go the more likely hood that you be in lane (1) or 2 = more runs

If you arrive later- high chance you be in lane 3 or 4 = less runs lol

It doesn't matter what you do, you're going to get 3 or 4 runs on the night.
Occasionally if you get there early (you are amongst the first half a dozen cars) and it's a slow day you can get 2 or 3 run in during the first hour and then you'll end up with 6 or 7 passes on the night.

Wednesday street meet is a 3 or 4 pass expectation. You can get more passes in on a private track day than years of street meets.

Number of runs isnt important - rather the calibre of cars that I will be grouped with.

I have been early and late, still end up in lane 2.

Understand. The lanes are grouped by V8, 6 cylinder etc.
If you go every week and the ANDRA/WSID officials get to know you, and your car can compete with the V8s, they will start to allow you into the other lanes, especially if you have an ANDRA licence and your own race number.

Thats a shame. Oh well, back to racing 15 second LPG falcons then.

Maybe when I crack the 11s, they will let me race a 13 second HSV

That's it. The entire drag racing community is very working class, V8 centric and old fashioned. They aren't called "knuckle draggers" for nuthin'!

Smarty pants young blokes with late model high tech BMW turbos are not their favourite thing, especially if their rig is quicker than commodore or Falcon V8.

I am not a class warrior or snob btw so I hope I didnt come across like that. Its just that I get routinely tailgated/provoked by the CBBB (ChevyBadgeBoganBrigade) when I am just driving to the shops or just generally minding my own business (might be the black wheels that set them off). So I find it frustrating that when we can legally race our cars, they dont want to.

Anyway, I will be there tomorrow night and I will keep an eye out for anyone else thinking of coming along.

the handfull of times i have been to wakefield (sorry kenny for the bendy talk on the straight thread) there have only been 2 holdens (no fords) and both SS utes. funny I never thought of it till reading this, but I would have expected a few more FPV's and SS's. They might be like the M boys, scared to pump the pedal

Installed a set of OEM Style 262 17" wheels and just got some Toyo R888s on the rears.

They look like shit but I kind of like the sleeper/stock like appearance. If they provide a decent performance improvement I might get them powder coated a gunmetal colour.

The overall diameter has gone from 635.50mm to 619.76mm.

The weight reduction of combined wheel + tyre compared to my 18" setup is:

Front - 0.4kg per corner

Rear - 2.58kg per corner

I was intending to get some Apex wheels and put 275s on but that will have to wait - have way too many other priorities at the moment.

I am going out to WSID on Wednesday (weather supposed to be good) so hopefully there will be some decent improvements in my 60' and ET.

You hungry for an 11 second pass. Just borrow a JB4 from Stu. I may have a spare if you wanna borrow it.

Haha. If I was only after 11s I would have had meth installed already.

I'm mostly interested in getting a better launch as I'm getting a bit worried that I am just too unco to get a decent one.

I have had an offer to borrow a Kosei/hoosier drag setup and when I get my m3 subframe and meth kit installed I will take them up on it (if it still stands).

This only cost me a couple hundred bucks and will be a bit of fun. It already feels much better to drive with 17"s and basically any tyre that isnt a pile of shite Neova AD08.

I also usually dont have anyone else with me when I go to the drags so changing wheels when I am there just isnt an option i.e. cant have someone mind my street wheels.

SO you have R888 on all around? I find them unbearably loud with 4 on.

No, just the rears. Noise seems ok.

You change them over at Advan and drive there with Hoosiers on, reverse.

OR I have mates who get to WSID early, get a pit spot next to a pole and chain their street tyres to the pole.

I hear you about going alone all the time, much more fun with someone else who has the bug going each week, whether they race their car or not.

Yeah, I guess I could chain them to a pole, would have to chain the jack as well. Cant say I really trust many people out there not to pinch anything, even if its chained to a pole.

It could be that they lose their grip after a few heat cycles but they never really had that much grip in the first place.

I could never mash the pedal to get off the line or even when moving, I would just get wheelspin. With the R888s and 17's I have way more traction than before even though I am down 20mm on tyre width.

Wednesday night will be a good test to see if it was the AD08s or my skills that have resulted in poor 60' times; I have a good feeling its the former.

Not great to hear as I've ordered some and I'm picking some up soon.
What about for circuit work?
I don't mind if ultimate grip isn't super high, but just want them to be able to cope with a couple of laps without overheating and going greasy like normal road tyres do.

I did a track day at EC and they were pretty average. But maybe I got some dodgy stock. Hopefully you will have a different experience with them.
