BMW Performance rear bumper

I got rear-ended recently and my rear bumper needs to be replaced. It's going to be getting fixed at the local BMW dealership. I had the (seemingly) brilliant idea of getting the BMW Performance rear bumper / diffuser put on and paying the difference myself. I wanted a rear diffuser and it seemed like an opportune time to get it partially subsidized. However, the BMW body shop and parts department guys seem less than knowledgeable about the bumper itself. The rear bumper shown in their system under BMW Performance parts shows the same price as the bumper quoted by the insurance co. ($748, but the parts counter guy said the standard one was $5??). The part numbers are only 1 number off. Their system shows a $1600 carbon fiber diffuser. So, here are the questions:

Does the BMW Performance bumper come with a diffuser that's black and the $1,600 is for a carbon fiber version of the diffuser? Or is there just one diffuser - carbon fiber? Is it functional?

By the way - I tried to do a search, but it kept telling me there wasn't enough memory. Then I looked back through 30 pages of posts and didn't find the information I was looking for.

I dont want to tell anyone what to do with their money, but there are several great alternatives to the bmw performance diffuser that have just as good fit and finish for a fraction of the price.

you might want to ask dan@unitedbmwonline on these forums. He is a BMW parts guy and knows everything.

I'm not too sure what the difference is between the OEM 135i vs M Package vs BMW performance.

If its only the diffuser, then I would just get a 135i M package rear bumper and just get a carbon fiber diffuser from an outside vendor. There are many good options for 1/2 the price BMW charges for theirs.

after a quick search, the BMW performance bumper is only for BMW 128i models that don't have M-sport. Apparantly, the M sport and BMW performance rear are the same?

Garage List
The BMW Performance body kit uses the exact same rear bumper/diffuser as the M-Spoert body kit. The front bumper and side skirts are different. There is also a BMW Performance carbon fiber diffuser for the rear bumper. It is a separate part.

Looks to me there is only one style bumper on a US spec 135i. 128i's are a different story. All 135i's have the M-sport bumpers.

One for PDC and w/o. Both cost around $500. The lower diffuser trim is extra, and yes you can get a CF version from BMW Performance for ~$1,300 to $1,600. Normally it comes in black ABS plastic.

Thanks for all the responses. I wanted a functional one (which the stock one is not), but have no desire for carbon fiber - and even less desire to spend the $$$ on carbon fiber. I was hoping there was a plastic one with WORKING diffuser. Again - thanks to all.

I know it is 5yrs late but I thought that the photos may help someone if they end up on here like I did whilie looking for a Diffuser on Google.

51120414220 BMW Performance rear Diffuser underside fitted, I will upload a better photo if I clean the car later this week.

It is not scratched, the laquer acts as a mirror when you take a photo.

The last photo with the roses and cardboard box is not mine as I copied it from the internet.
